Man Jesus, of course I know what might come. There's just some things that don't need airing out in the light, is all.

I think you avoid unpleasant topics too much. There's seven and a half for you.

Cordelia, what's the point of dwelling on it? It'll only cast a dark cloud on the now, and why do that? Horrible things happen. When they do, then they do. S'a fact of life.

Because talking like this is going to last forever is the same as lying.

This thing you're feeling? It doesn't last forever. The amount of couples who stay together under normal circumstances is minuscule. We have more challenges than most.

You're going to get tired of me someday, Bert.

This thing I feel? It does last. I know that it does, because I feel as deeply for you as I do for my brothers. Love, real love, isn't sommat that fades. It changes, aye, but it doesn't go away.

You know how you used to think that people who fell in love were idiots?

This is why. Right here. Because they would say things like that.

Romeo and Juliet are this famous fictional couple back on Earth. They died for their love, and everyone talks about how great their love was. But the thing is, Romeo and Juliet only knew each other for days. If they'd stayed together, Juliet would have eventually gotten bored with the routine and Romeo would have cheated on Juliet with someone younger once she gained some weight from having kids.

The enchantment doesn't last forever. When it goes away, so does the commitment.

That's bullshit, Cordelia. And you're right, in a way. About why I thought people who fell in love were idiots. Because when you really fall in love - with the truth of someone's soul - that's it. There's nothing else. There's that love and that's what's inside you till the day you die.

I don't know how it is with the other men you've known, but when I make a commitment, it's for life.

If you really believe that, that this sort of thing lasts forever, you're going to get hurt.

One of us is going to get unhappy, or go back home, or meet someone else. Because I'm not your soulmate, Bert. I'm sorry. I'm just not.

You died. You lost your world, your family, your ka-tet.

I'm no shrink, but sometimes I'm pretty sure that I just came along when you needed something to hold onto. That it was easier to label me as a soulmate than to feel alone.

There were other women, Cordelia, before you. It wasn't some need, it was you.

I don't need romantic love to keep me from feeling alone. Why can't you accept the fact that someone loves you, heart and soul, whole and full?

Because I don't deserve that.

I don't get rewarded, Bert. I get punished.

I wasn't a good person and the universe makes sure I know it.

It's not all as cut and dry as that. And you're a good person now. We've all got things we're not proud of, and everybody fucks up.

Anyway, I'm not some cosmic reward. I'm a man who loves you. And you're going to have to get used to that.

We can agree to disagree.

As long as you don't try and argue I don't love you.
