In a move that surprises no one...
As anyone watching my plurk is doubtlessly aware, the last few weeks have left me massively unhappy with playing Diana. Therefore, I've decided, instead of complaining about it, to get off my duff and do something about it.
On the evening of Day 170, after her conversation with Pasha, Diana will quietly slip out of her room and go to Skokan, volunteering to test out the Grasp and be sent home. No one's going to notice she was gone, I don't want to cause any angst. She'll be sent off to the old World of Darkness, boomeranging back in the temple after exactly one minute at home. I suppose it's technically a canon bump, but not enough to drastically alter her personality or life experience (now if it were a five minute canon bump, that would be a different story, but I'm not that mean...).
What this will alter, however, are her memories. Upon returning to Niflheim, Diana will be back to where she was at the start of her time in the game, on Day 82. In other words, she will have her BN and HWD memories, but they will be Swiss cheesing her brain again, only unlocking when she sees the face of a person she knew in one or both of those games. (I am happy to handwave any "Oh, wait, I remember you! Didn't you light your hair on fire in [game location]?" with anyone who doesn't want to go through that rigamarole again and, in fact, unless you tell me otherwise, I may just assume handwaving because that's a lot of you.)
The big change is that Diana will be forfeiting her previous memories from this game setting. In other words, if a conversation or event took place in one of the ToS comms, she's not going to remember it. (I'm happy to handwave certain conversations reminding her of events, but check with me first, please, as there are some things I specifically don't want her to remember or be reminded of.)
I know that's kind of confusing, so I'm going to give an example of what I mean. It's the teacher training in me:
Upon returning from her "canon update," Diana has a network conversation with Pasha. As far as she knows, Pasha is a total stranger with a really thick accent who uses a lot of words she doesn't know, but later on, the two of them meet in a hallway. Diana immediately remembers everything she knew about Pasha from Bete Noire. But she does not remember, however, she had a conversation with Pasha about dead fathers last week, in the common room. Nor does she remember that Pasha is getting married soon (Ben? Who's that?). So Pasha has to remind her of that stuff. Fortunately, Pasha's got a trustworthy face.
If it's still a little confusing and you want to talk to me about it, please feel free to comment here or ping me privately.
I think that about covers it. On a personal note, I want to apologize. I know this may be frustrating for some people, and if you don't wish to continue our CR, I will understand entirely. I'm doing this for me, so I can get back on track with what I want out of my RPing life, playing the character I want to play.
