Arthur Pendragon | Merlin

[personal profile] loyalfool 2013-12-07 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Around and around. There are so many corners, so many dead ends that he keeps running into that it reminds him of the maze of Gedref. Except this isn't to help his people and he's starting to get angry. Alright, he was already angry. When he found the person responsible Arthur was going to throw them in the stocks for the day and then he'd take pleasure in throwing rotten fruit at them himself.

Or he'd just hit them upon seeing them - it depended on how generous he was feeling when he found them.

A meow sounded from beneath him and Arthur looked down at the tiny kitten held in one arm. He hadn't known how it had gotten there. Magic perhaps. If he were honest with himself, he didn't know why he continued to carry it. It seemed like a perfectly normal animal (despite the magical appearance) and so he'd take it out of the maze and let it go. That is, if he could ever find the way out.

Arthur lifted the kitten which was tiny enough to sit in the palm of his hand. "You better not be responsible for this." The kitten blinked owlishly at him and mewed.

"Cry pardon, sai?"

Cuthbert had found himself - as he often did when the day was winding down - wandering. He liked to walk and be alone with his thoughts sometimes, ambling wherever his feet would take him and sorting through the many puzzles and ponderings that kept his mind running in circles.

It was only a voice from down 'round a corner that pulled him from his thoughts, and he turned the bend with a curious grin.

The voice wasn't a familiar one, but it held that accent that put Bert so much in mind of his own homeland.

He very nearly reached for a sword that was mysteriously absent at the sound of the voice. At first Arthur looked down suspiciously at the kitten but quickly realized the voice was coming from further away.

Just as he thought someone rounded the nearby corner. No one he'd ever seen before. Arthur's first thought is that this man could be the one responsible for this madness. However, he'll hold off on making any accusations.

For now.

That won't keep the wariness from his tone. "Who are you?"

This was an unfamiliar face indeed. And not exactly the most amiable and welcoming of reactions, judging by the faint hints of caution and suspicion in the man's immediate question. No greeting, no explanation, but an immediate request for identification.

Newcomer, then, most likely. The gunslinger would set his watch and warrant on it.

"I'm Cuthbert Allgood, sai, son of Robert! But everyone mostly just calls me Bert." He stuck his hands in the pockets of his denims, hoping to look at ease and non-threatening. He knew the shock it was, finding yourself in this place.

He noted the furry little critter in the fellow's arms and his grin widened. "May I perhaps be of any service to you? I've been here more'n a week."

After everything that's happened it's a bit hard not to take precautions. Finding himself in such a maze after listening to the story he's been told has not made him feel at ease. This could be some sort of trick his wicked sister has pulled on him. It would not be beyond her magical powers.

She had many minions to do her bidding and this stranger could be one of them.

"Arthur Pendragon, King of Camelot, son of Uther Pendragon." Until proven guilty, Arthur would not condemn this man. Which meant placing the smallest bit of trust in him.

He shifted the kitten back into his arm. "You can point me in the direction of the exit if you happen to know one."
ka_mai: (is that something good?)

[personal profile] ka_mai 2013-12-07 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
"I...cry your pardon, sai?"

The question about the exit was lost on Bert, usually one to note everything spoken or implied. His manner changed, a curious sort of wonder and disbelief coming upon him. But the moment the man had offered his name his mind had begun to race. Because he swore the man said Arthur Pendragon. Bert had read the Earth legends, he knew full well the man that in his world bore the name Arthur Eld had been named Pendragon in that one.

And Arthur was Arthur, no matter the name that followed or what city his throne had sat in. Gilead or Camelot, they were mirrors set against one another across a foggy glass. It made no difference, Arthur was king of kings, touched by God, he of the most holy blood to ever walk the mortal soil.

It was a touch hard to reconcile that with the pleasant looking blond fellow holding a wee kitty.
loyalfool: (If You Say So)

[personal profile] loyalfool 2013-12-07 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Brilliant, a daft one. Arthur's first thought is to compare this man to his fool of a servant. If it was Merlin, he wouldn't hesitate to insult Robert but he held his tongue. For now. It wasn't becoming of a king to talk to a stranger in that manner on the first meeting. He'd come a long way from the way he had been as a prince.

The mere surprise Robert displayed at his name and title surely meant that his identity had not been known beforehand. Had this been one of Morgana's plans the need for deception would not be necessary. It didn't mean Arthur wouldn't keep a hint of vigilance while the other was around.

"So I take it you've heard of me," he stated. Not a question.
ka_mai: (hero)

[personal profile] ka_mai 2013-12-07 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
"If you are truly who you say, aye, I have more'n heard of you, my lord."

And he had no reason to doubt the man. Didn't he count the wizard Merlin amongst his friends? They'd shared stories of the knights and kings of their respective homes. No, Bert had no reason to doubt that he stood in the presence of the first king of the round table.

Swallowing hard, he did the only thing he could think of. He dropped to one knee and bowed his head. There was nothing else a gunslinger could do, when faced with the father of their entire civilization and code. It would be like the Man Jesus appearing to a Christian man, or Oriza to one of the warrior women of the plains.

The last son of Allgood was awed and humbled, wondering at how he had come to be in a place to kneel before a man that was more legend than anything else.

"I hail from a world that was once united beneath Excalibur, wielded by Arthur, the first king of Gilead who gathered his knights about the round table. A world that is a twin of yours, that has kept the traditions of Arthur alive for two thousand years. My grandsire was his right hand, and I served as knight to my king for all of my days. I am...honored to meet you, to put it quite mildly."
loyalfool: (In The Light Of Day I See Things Clearly)

[personal profile] loyalfool 2013-12-07 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Claiming to be Arthur in this time was a foolish move, especially considering how much Morgana wanted him dead. There were situations where he barely escaped with his life - and one he was certain he wouldn't. It was also the same for his knights.

So when Robert knelt at his feet it was nearly impossible not to believe that this man was who he claimed to be. As hard it was to accept.

Merlin had told him of his magic - that he had only used to for him and for Camelot despite his father's laws against it that had carried over when Arthur took over ruling the kingdom. He was in a land where magical beings lived beneath the ocean waves. Why could there not be a land that was identical to his own? One where it was the great future he could only dream about.

So Arthur looked down upon this man and accepted him as one of his own. If he were truthful, he could use all of the allies he could get in a place such as this one.

"Rise Sir Robert of Gilead. There are no crowns or thrones here, simply two men trapped in a world far from their own." Arthur reached out a hand to help Robert back to his feet.

"Cuthbert, m'lord," Bert politely corrected. Though there was a pride in King Arthur addressing him by his father's name. "Robert was my da, though I'll answer to his name with honor! We've all been 'Berts' of some sort, all the way back to Bertrand Allgood! Ah, the knight known as Lancelot on Earth. He was my great ancient grandsire."

And Bert clasped Arthur's hand and took his feet, awash with some sort of thrumming energy. Arthur. He'd known, of course, that the man was real. Roland bore his blood. But it was something to know that once upon a time there was a great king who united the chaos of the ancient world, another to have the fellow telling you to stop making a fuss.

Eld's balls, he'd have to tell Roland and Aileen....

And mayhap he ought to stop swearing on the fellow's tackle, all things considered. Considering those balls had suddenly stopped being theoretical and were, in a quite literal sense, standing in front of him.

Was that blasphemy?
loyalfool: (Being Humble For Once)

that is what I get for tagging while distracted...

[personal profile] loyalfool 2013-12-07 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"My apologies, Bert." Arthur had no issue addressing someone casually. He had done it with his wife long before he'd taken an interest in her that way. If one had a preferred nickname he would use it.

Once Bert was on his feet, he laid that hand on the other man's shoulder. Eyes watch the man's face for a moment. "Lancelot was a good man, and a better knight." Sure they'd had their moments of discord, especially when it came to Gwen but the man had be loyal. In the end Lancelot had sacrificed his life to save king and country.

After a moment he let his hand fall away. "Now, about that exit to this blasted maze."
ka_mai: (sunny smile)

No worries!

[personal profile] ka_mai 2013-12-07 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing to apologize for! I have been called many things in my life, and that's among the best of'em!"

He straightened and felt a strange little thrill of pride run through him. "I'm glad to hear yeh say that, sai. The stories out of England that I've read...I'm afraid they paint a poorer picture of the man. And I know that my grandsire was a good and honorable knight, and a true friend to his king."

Not the wife-fucking braggart that Bert had discovered in the pages of the little book he'd taken from Dagaz. That had been the greatest shock to him, in the differences between the legends of the two worlds.

"As for the exit, it is easy to get turned about, innit? Too many halls for my liking. Here, we'll want to head down this way." Bert gestured before striking out to lead on. "S'a good place to be alone with your thoughts, though."

[personal profile] loyalfool 2013-12-08 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
That does earn Bert a smile and an accompanying laugh. "As have I, my good man. Mostly by my own servant, Merlin."

Arthur will put that free arm around the knight's shoulders briefly before letting it drop. There was once a time when he suspected Lancelot and Gwen were having secret lover's meetings but it was before Arthur's marriage to the woman. "I don't know what these stories say but he was a man I trusted my life and my kingdom with on more than one occasion."

It was true down to the core. Gwen may have loved Lancelot and still did but Arthur would let the knight stand at his side to face down any foe.

"Considering I'm not entirely sure how I got here in the first place, it is." Alone with his thoughts was not something he wanted at the moment. Not when it meant facing his fate and all that he had left behind.

There was something wonderful about getting lost. At least, to Garmay's mind. When you got lost, you had the chance to find yourself again. And who knew where you'd end up when you finally did? Given what she'd seen of the Nysgods so far, it could be anywhere. And anywhere, to her mind, was always better than where ever it was she'd come from.

Circular logic to some. But to Garmay, it made complete sense. Or at least, to Gamray's restless feet.

She was strolling through the topiary maze, with little in the way of purpose. That is, until she heard someone talking. Despite the many warnings of her brothers, Garmay loved strangers.

Loved them. Loved everything that they meant, everything they had to offer. Strangers meant new. New stories, new ways of doing things, new ways of seeing the world. Garmay collected all those things. Like pearls on a strand.

Delightedly, she let out a loud crow and started running in the direction of the voice, her bare feet padding against the hard, packed ground below.

[personal profile] loyalfool 2013-12-07 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Strange maze, mysteriously appearing cat and now odd noises put Arthur more on edge than he previously had been. Even with Morgana dead, her soldiers could have continued their attack on Camelot and on himself, as well. While he was less concerned for himself in those moments, Arthur also knew that he couldn't afford to focus on the safety of others. Not that he'd be able to reach them from this strange world that lived beneath the water.

So as the footsteps come closer he pressed his back to the large bush, hidden around the corner he believed them to be coming from. The kitten held in one hand so that it wouldn't wander away to get lost or end up getting in the way of whatever was to happen.

Garmay came running through the maze, her instincts still driving her in Arthur's direction. She was quite the sight, a barefoot ragamuffin, perhaps a few years younger than Arthur himself. She would never have considered herself a creature of magic. Not by Hyrule's standards, anyway. But her pointed ears decidedly set her apart as something other than human.

Her open-mouthed smile, however? That was as human as human could be.

"Hello?" she called, coming to a stop and spinning around in a circle, trying to locate her company. "Anyone here?"

When the woman came sprinting around the corner he watched her a moment instead of revealing his presence. She looked quite the sight with her odd ears and her barefoot feet. While she did appear quite harmless - so had other people Arthur had been fooled by. Even if she wasn't quite human, at least she wasn't some entirely odd creature who made inhuman noises.

So he stepped forward, away from the wall comprised of leaves.

"Who are you?"
garmayzaya: (Surprised)

[personal profile] garmayzaya 2013-12-08 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
She spun around, her dress whipping around her. Garmay still wasn't used to seeing people who looked like they were her age. It was always a delightful surprise and she let out the tiniest, happy little shriek before catching herself at the last minute.

And then she looked at him. Really looked at him.

That was silk he was wearing. She was sure of it. And his fingernails looked...clean.

Nobility.

Garmay gave him a slight curtsy. More of a bounce, really. Garmay always seemed to bounce, no matter what she was doing. "Skye Marina Zaya," she said politely. "But most folks call me Garmay."
loyalfool: (Got A Bad Feeling About This)

[personal profile] loyalfool 2013-12-08 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
This was a woman who was easily excitable. Just his mere presence had her crying out in happiness. Something told him it wasn't because of who he was.

At her slight, bouncy curtsy Arthur did bow his head a little. Not because she was nobility but simply because she was a lady. When she introduced herself he wondered how people managed to get 'Garmay' out of that name.

"Arthur Pendragon, King of Camelot." He won't go into the list of names people called him as there were too many and some he didn't approve of.

King? Well. He was an awfully young king. In her experience, a young king meant one of two things; tragedy or treason. She'd been fortunate, that in her many travels and her short life, for the most part, it had been tragedy. Which led her to trust the various kings she served. And Garmay was one to assume the best in people. So for now, she supposed, she'd simply see him as an orphan, like herself.

A rich, powerful, noble orphan. But still.

"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, your majesty," she said, offering him a bright, cheerful, fearless smile.
