Scar looked up suddenly when the stranger addressed him. He watched the young man for a moment before looking back to the cat.

"Are strays common here?" It seemed strange. Out of place, in such a bizarre world. The cat purred, snuggling closer.

"More common than you might think."

It was what they all were. In a way.

Strays from other universes.

"But cats aren't very common. You might want to keep an eye on it."

He caught onto the meaning behind the other man's words and frowned, lifting the kitten into his lap.

"I was planning to." Scar continued to pat the cat. Though he didn't exactly appear thrilled to have made a new friend, he had always had a fondness for cats. He looked up at the stranger once again.

"I take it you were taken as well?"

"One of the candidates, yes."

A short pause. "Merlin." Sometimes he did forget to give his name. It was just a matter of being somewhat absent minded, and then never knowing how someone would react.

Candidates. What a pathetic word to cover word for what they were doing. Scar continued to frown as the Merlin offered his name. He was silent for a moment.

"Scar." It was all he was ever willing to offer.

Each of them was doing something a little bit different. Finding a way to cope with another universe was a strange dance. Some accepted the change, and some never did.

If Merlin had to make a wild guess, he would say that Scar was likely to fall into the later category.

"Going to name that one?" The kitten.

Scar looked back down to the kitten currently sitting in his lap. Name it... His frown deepened. That was what was done, wasn't it? But what to call him? her?

"I ought to..." He suspected that it would simply run away once he got off the train, but it was nice to think that it would stick around, even if just for a little while.

"Isaac," he finally muttered, lifting the kitten to eye level and watching it squirm as it tried to bat at his bangs.
