"A nexus. But why?"

He really wanted to know why they were pulled here, and under the sea of all places? Let alone something obviously built for people to live in.

"They're looking for someone. A potential mate for the prince. Seems like they don't think they'll find that sort of person in just one universe."

There were a lot of answers that his simple question could cover. "As for this particular city - it's a punishment for the candidates hacking the communication network."

His eyebrows flew up. "How wonderful. And why were they hacking the network, anyways? And why are they pulling men for a prince? That's illogical."

For someone who grumped about Spock, he surely did channel him at times.

Did Bones want the logical and straight-forward answers? Doesn't matter because he's getting it. "If I had to form a hypothesis based on what I know, I'd say: to gather information. In some species it's the male's job to carry the embryo until it's born, hatched or germinated. The same is true of the males here in this world. Perhaps it's because they don't know enough about other species' reproduction process to know the difference or they're capable of impregnating a male no matter the species."

The Enterprise has noticed their occasional tendency to act like one of the others.

McCoy made a face at her answer. He knew biology, but he was meaning it more as a general complaint and not a specific one. He sighed once, before answering.

"That is entirely possible. You sound like a certain science officer I have had the pleasure of serving with, by the way."
