Len "Bones" McCoy | Star Trek AOS (genderbent AU)
Holding the kitten up by the scruff of the neck, she scowled. "This is all Jane's fault," she groused to it, before tucking the thing back in her arms and continuing her rapid trek through the maze. Somehow, it seemed appropriate to pin the blame on Jane in her irritability. A lot of the trouble in her life was caused by the Enterprise captain.

"Lost?" She asked, popping up beside the strangely familiar woman.

The question only made Bones all the more irritable. “No.” She wasn’t lost. Well, she was, in the ‘having been ripped out of her own damn universe’ sort of way. This was just a maze. Sooner or later she’d find her way out. “Not exactly.”

Anything is better than being caught crying.
"Nice cat."

She’s pulling the other woman into a hug without hesitation (it worked, the gamble with Khan’s blood had worked), shifting the stupid cat out of the way so she can do it properly.

She always was a tactile person, touching and teasing. Good for a pat on the back or a good solid short-lived hug. But since being here, she's grown more needy. Clinging to her people and her tightly held sanity as people she cared for kept coming and leaving and coming back a little more broken and she just-
She needed Bones. She had needed that cynicism and sarcasm and metaphorical grasp of reality to keep Jane grounded and in the present and not breaking into a thousand pieces that never quite fit back together the same way after.
She had needed her best friend.
And now she couldn't even articulate how much it meant to her that this universe finally stopped dicking around with her and gave her the grounding force she had been needing.
