"There you are!" Jim exclaimed, scooping the kitten up and cradling it to his bosom. "How many times have I told you? Mustn't get lost down here. No one gets left--"

He looked up suddenly, finally noticing someone else in the hallway, witness to his pajama bottoms and bare chest, kitten talk, and general uncaptainly behavior. Well, fine. He was man enough to admit when he'd been caught out. He cleared his throat, but did not put the kitten down.

"Excuse me," he said. "I thought she'd been lost."

Bones shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'm glad she found her owner. I recently arrived and she decided that I was entertaining. Contrary creatures."

Now that was delivered in a familiar drawl that Jim would recall, except he was just a bit younger and dressed a slightly different style of Science Blue.
