"Screw choice. If you don't like option A or B, then make your own option C." As far as Damon knew, this Elena was a vampire, something he'd figure out wasn't true as soon as he took the time to really look her over. Or, you know, listened to her heartbeat.

"Their little grabby hands toy doesn't get to say how long we stay here."

"Oh, so you're an expert in inter dimensional travel now?"

She doesn't mean to be snippy, but she doesn't necessarily want to go home to her death either. She crosses her arms in front of her chest as she steps away from him.

"Would it really be such a bad thing to stay? It could be a break. A break from ... everything."

"I could be." He gives her a look before moving away, turning to look around the room as he assessed their situation. Stuck in a city and told to 'stay put' while they wait for some alien prince to pull a love at first sight gag. No thank you.

"I didn't take you as the running away sort, Elena. I thought you'd want to find the cure as much as Stefan does." If only to cram it down her throat so he could have her back and get her away from Damon. "My idea of a break doesn't involve being kidnapped and subject to a possible shotgun wedding."

She was with him at first, because he's right. She's not the running away type, and she never was. But since they go home to right where they were left and where she was left was in a truck in a river, she wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of running back to that.

Then what he said next confused her. She turned to face him again. "Cure? What cure?"

He turned back to her, frowning just a little. "The cure." Like that was supposed to explain it all. Had someone not been paying attention? That surprised him, since he thought she'd been on board with the plans to get it.

She gives him a look because yeah, that clears up so much. "The cure for what?"

"Ha, ha, very funny. Okay, I'll play along. 'The cure for you that Stefan's so insistent upon finding and giving to you so you can go back to being human and therefore, back to being in love with him'. There. Did I pass the test?" He smirked before he turned back to looking around their 'new home'. Screw that.

He looks away, but Elena's focus is on some point in the floor as she tries to process what the words mean. She's not stupid. She's guessing that this means from whatever time Damon's from, she's no longer human. Which could mean only one thing.

"I'm a vampire?"

The thought alone makes her chest tighten, and she tries not to panic, regardless of the fact that it's the last thing she ever wanted to be.

He turned back at the question, brows lifting. "Is this some kind of trick que--," he paused, listening for the first time and hearing the accelerated heartbeat that was coming from her. She had a heartbeat.

He was back in front of her quickly, gripping her arms and looking down at her. "You're human again. How did they do it?" Along with the surprise and disbelief, there was a thread of fear. Human, she'd probably prefer Stefan again, making him lose what he felt he'd just gotten.

Elena takes a step back, pushing him away from her as she tries to recenter her thoughts. A vampire. She's a vampire. She must have had vampire blood in her system when she went off that bridge, but she couldn't remember how it could have gotten into her system.

"They didn't do anything." She says quietly, not quite looking at him as she speaks. "Matt and I both arrived here shortly after his truck went over the bridge." She always knew she wasn't making it out of that car alive, but she didn't think it would turn into something like this.

He just stared at her for a minute, two thoughts loud in his head. One, she didn't want him anymore. Here he was, being tossed aside again. Two, they seemed to be able to take people from different times. This was probably good to know.

"Of course the human puppy would follow you here. Color me so not surprised." He didn't take a step back, but he didn't move forward again. "You haven't missed much." It was probably best if he didn't fill her in on some of the things that had happened recently.

It probably is. She isn't entirely sure she wants to hear it. It also isn't that she doesn't want Damon. She still struggles with those feelings for him as much as she did before, but this? This is too much.

"It sounds like I've missed a lot."

He shrugged it off, not wanting to make a big deal of it or go into any long, meaningful conversations. He was too busy trying to fully accept he was apparently stuck here and he was stuck here with Elena. It might be worthwhile if they'd thrown in some kind of beach getaway with white sands and drinks with umbrellas.

"Just the usual Mystic Falls chicanery. What about here? How long have you been here?"

"Just a few weeks. Matt got here a week after I did." But from the same point in time, which yes, was very weird, but she had moved past that at this point.

"And what do you make of all this," he asked, gesturing around them to indicate not just the house, but the whole wonderful kidnapping adventure as well.

She shrugs. "I haven't met the prince yet, so I can't really say anything there." She starts loosening up a bit as they talk about something else. She'll have to fully digest the idea of her being a vampire later.

"The other candidates are nice."

"Right. Nice. I'm sure they're just peachy." Damon's trust in anyone he hadn't personally met and judged was nonexistent. He moves to sit, looking around the room in disdain. He bet they didn't even have anything good to drink here. "Do you plan on falling for Charming if he smiles your way?"

She flashes him a look. "I'm not planning on doing anything. I haven't even met him yet."

He gave her a short smile, trying not to let the burn of jealousy show. First Stefan and now this prince character. Wonderful.

Maybe it hurt so much because he'd already had her. She was, as far as he was concerned, his. And yet here she was in front of him again, human, and clearly not his. The universe hated him. "Why haven't we met him? Shouldn't he be the one to greet everyone and give them a yes or no sticker?"

"I don't know. Some of the candidates have -- I've talked to them -- but they also mentioned living in another city, Dagaz. They can't live there right now because of the meteors."

Her face turns up a bit on the end because she didn't experience the meteors for herself. She's just heard they're there.

"Mmhmm. Meteors. What the hell is this, some kind of sci-fi video game?" Someone was not impressed, even less so that he'd managed to be snagged by these people. Damon emphatically hated being caged, even if the cage was an entire city. He was even more pissed that Elena was here and up as a 'potential mate'. Over his already dead body.

She shrugs. She's stopped trying to figure it out, mostly because she's never really gotten very far. "Can you really say it's the weirdest thing we've been through?"

He gave her a look that was full of every bit of sarcasm he could lace it with. "Interdimensional kidnapping? Yeah, I have to say this tops it on the weird scale."

"Maybe." Or maybe she was just a little more accepting of things because she's -- or at least she thought she was dead. "At least no one's trying to kill us."

Yet.

"Just wait. It'll happen." The surety of that statement was just Damon being Damon - and mostly because he seemed to bring that out in people.
