"No, you're not." He gave her a firm look. "You know, vampire Elena was way more fun. You were getting used to it. Even finding things about it you liked." He smiled as he remembered the college party. Oh yes, much fun.

She glares at him. "I don't want to get used to it. I don't want to be that. I never did." Sense how Elena is preparing to dig in her heels about never going home.

But first things first.

"What about Matt? Is he ... ?"

"No, you didn't. But it happened and you were dealing with it."

He finally got up, turning the cushion over before sitting back down. There. Better. "Yes, your little pet is fine. Stefan got him out first, which is how the whole situation got twisted around in the first place."

Lucky for Matt that Stefan was the one there. If it had been Damon, Elena would have been pulled out first, even if he had to drag her kicking and screaming up to the surface.

She exhales slowly, nodding a bit as she leaned back against the couch. "Good. That's good."

No matter how much they try to beat it out of her, Elena is always going to be a martyr. And if she has to be a vampire, there might as well be something good out of it.

"Uh huh. It's just peachy."

He looked around the room, puffing out his cheeks as he let out a breath. "So what is there to do around here?"

"Get a job? Talk to people?" She shrugs. "There are plenty of bars."

"You mean they expect me to work? That's crap. I didn't have to back home, why should I give up my wonderfully philanthropic status from there just to roll around in filth here?"

"Because you have no money to be philanthropic with?"

"Which is crap. If they were going to take me, they should have taken a few other things as well. Or at least set me up in a similar position." No, he was not sulking.

"That takes all the fun out of starting over. No baggage, no ... preconceptions. Just you." She actually likes it. She doesn't have so much history that she has to care about everything.

"No fun, no toys. No preconceptions only last so long, Elena."

"But at least for a little while there's a break. It could be worse." Klaus could be here. Or Rebekah.

Or Katherine. "Really? I'd say being broke and shoved in a place to possibly be carted around for marriage sort of tops the 'things that suck' list."

"Maybe you just need to have an open mind about it." She shrugs before leaning back against the couch. "It could be an adventure."

"In case you weren't up to speed, being kidnapped is not an adventure. That would be Stockholm talking." He gave her a wry grin before resting his head back against the couch.

"Maybe it is." But she is in no rush to become a vampire, so if she can squeeze out a little more time as a human here, maybe it's worth it. "Haven't you ever just wanted to ... run away? To take a little time to not worry?"
