So how long exactly is 'so long'? Since I've been here maybe two hours now. Possibly three, if you count the time it took for those two girls to give me the run down on everything.

[It felt like more in some ways and others like he just got here.]

There are those who have been here several months more than me though.

All right. [her eyes flick back to the fish.] So you actually know what's going on around here, even if you're just somewhere in the middle. What exactly aren't they telling me?

[Kurt laughs but without any humor to it and shakes his head.]

Far, far too much. We're only scratching the surface of all that we think they're not telling us.

Oh good, it's Beacon Hills all over again. Only with fewer Alphas trying to kill everyone and more terrible work uniforms.

[Kurt scowls and looks at his outfit. At least he had his paired with a scarf.]

Yeah. They're pretty bad. [but he does get the first proper smile out of her yet, as she flicks her hair back over her shoulder again.]

I've improved them some with at least getting them to fit. They're one size fit all and the fabric is very strange. I have a friend who used some magic to make them shrink in the right spots.

[He could tell from her outfit she knew a thing or two about fashion.]

At least we get to wear what we want on our off days.

I'm from Ohio. I've never been out west.

Magic. Like a witch or something? [hey, there are stranger things out there. Like kanimas.] Well, at least you managed to get that thing to look better than it looks on the hangar.

Ohio. Where they get real winter, or so I hear. I've never been.

Wizard actually. [His smile grows at her compliment.] Thank you. It's actually pretty comfortable when you get it to fit right. Not that I wouldn't like to burn it if I got half the chance. We work three days and then get a day off.

I'm not sure that's a bragging point but yes, we do get snow and ice.

What's the difference? [and is he evil? Is he going to kill everyone when they're not looking? Are we talking Druidic magic here? She's super done with Druidic magic.

[And her smile suggests she's not wholly convinced, but she'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.] Sounds like an awful lot of work for not a lot of benefit. What do we get out of these menial tasks?

How's the sudden lack of weather treating you?

One is a guy and one is a girl. At least that's how it is in his home world.

[He laughs lightly.]

No, you're right. It's very pointless. We're in forced labor to pay our rent and keeping because they got upset with us a few days ago. And I'd rather any weather compared to this.

I didn't realize that was the only difference until he told me. I always thought witches were evil and ugly like you see at Halloween.

Uh, we tapped into their private channels over the network and overheard some stuff we shouldn't have. I'm not sure how they did it.

You haven't seen evil and ugly until you've met a Darach. [ugh.] They take it to a whole new level. And fun fact: they're just a step above a regular witch. They just have a lot more pent-up anger.

And everyone was still punished for it?
