Welcome to the Wyld

Welcome to the Wyld! The next segment of the metaplot will be taking place in this setting. Please take a moment to read the description of the setting on the mod journal, which can be found here. Read it carefully. It has a lot of important details that will help to guide you in the events that follow.

Below is an FAQ for players. It also has some information about a sign-up in this post.

So where are we?
The candidates are currently stranded in a place known as "the Wyld," a sort of netherworld between realities. Read this post here for a basic description. Note that this description is a BASELINE. During mod-run events (and any player plots that emerge), the Wyld may change how it manifests itself, temporarily.

What do we have here?
In addition to all the things that the Wyld provides (as described in this post here), the candidates have whatever they arrived carrying. The mods are not policing PC possessions. If you suddenly realize something would be super handy for your character to reasonably have, you can say they have it. We're going to trust you!

I was definitely carrying a weapon. Do the rules against violence still apply?
There is no magic preventing violence here. However, keep in mind that people cannot die in the Wyld. So if you go after your longtime enemy and try to hack them to death, they'll live to tell the tale and you may have all that enemy's friends coming after you.

I gotta ask. What have we got here in the way of birth control?
You have what you brought with you. You can also find "maiden tea" in the rainforest, if you so desire. If players are interested in pursuing any kind of pregnancy plot, speak to the mods about time dialation in the Wyld.

Do we still have our assigned room mates?
No! You don't even have rooms! Fortunately, there are building materials available. They are outlined here and include wood from trees, stones to quarry, vines, shrubs, sand to turn into glass under the right circumstances, and anything else your imaginations can come up with, based on the guidelines. There may be a PC or two who has an unlimited supply of metal as well, but the mods aren't going to give that away! Have fun with it!

What is there to eat around here?
There's cacti in the Desert, fish in the Tundra, bananas, mangoes, and coconuts in the Beach, and a gazillion fruits, nuts, and roots in the Rainforest. Some PCs may also have food sources. Additionally, certain events may provide other tasty and not at all magical foodstuffs.

What about water sources?
Again, that's largely outlined in the Wyld post. You can collect rainwater from the rainforest or siphon it from cacti. Other water sources are either too salty or cause horrible magical things to happen to you.

But my character has a very particular dietary restriction!
If your character's dietary restriction cannot be satisfied by what's in the setting, the mods are allowing players to create some kind of fictional fruit tree that miraculously produces what they need. For example, if you play a vampire who would absolutely not feed on another PC, they can find a fruit that smells strangely of blood and, upon investigation, provides them with all of the benefits of blood as well. We are not looking to starve your characters in any way. Please feel free to talk to us if you're having any kind of problem.

Hey, I was thinking about doing a canon update. Is that still possible here?
Absolutely. Canon updates will be working differently for the setting, of course, since Skokan isn't around to test the Grasp on candidates. Since the Wyld is a place where reality bleeds, characters who desire a canon update will have that reality bleed right into them. While minding their own business, they'll suddenly be hit by one of the bolts of lightning from the sky. This will knock them out and, for a day, their will twitch and seize. As they do, their memories of the canon update will filter into their heads. If they undergo physical changes due to the canon update, this will happen right in front of the eyes of the other candidates. When the day ends, they will wake up with their update. Please note, they will not be able to bring over objects as part of the update, but physical changes and new clothing are permitted. (As always, you will need to submit a write-up to the mod journal, explaining the canon update and how it will change the character.)

If we're stranded, how are new characters arriving?
Remember that metal rod that Hesiod thrust into the stone? That's not Excalibur. That is, in fact, the Grasp. No one can seem to touch the Grasp at the moment, but it's there. New arrivals will appear under the tree where Insa will be on hand to provide them with an earpiece and exposition (this is subject to change, if PCs decide they would like to set up some kind of "welcoming" system). New arrival information will be provided to all new players and new characters.

Speaking of those earpieces...how are those working in the Wyld?
The short answer is...just barely. Although the network is functioning, it's limited. No messages are reaching people outside of the Wyld (that would end this segment of the metaplot very quickly, after all). Anyone who tries will be met with silence. Not regular silence, but a nearly painful, excruciating silence. There's no one on the other end, folks. The network is functioning within the Wyld, but every message is riddled with static. Sometimes, it's almost as though voices can be heard in the static. They're unclear and inhuman, but hauntingly real. At some points, locking will also be a little glitchy. Translation is still functional too, but there sometimes seems to be a little bit of a delay, like a poorly dubbed movie.

What about dropped characters? Are they still leaving behind toys?
Nope. If a character is dropped, their departure will be a bit more dramatic and visible. If you have close CR that drops, please contact a mod to explain what happens. This will be done on a first-come-first-served basis.

Speaking of toys...can I grab some of Casey/Adriana/Skokan's stuff that's flying around?
Glad you asked! Yes! You can! But read this response very carefully. In the interest of fairness, we're going to RNG things a little bit. If you would like your character to pick something up, sign up in the subthread below by March 7 at the latest. We are going to ask that only one character per player signs up. But there's a catch! In order to sign up, you must provide a link to a thread from the arrival log of your character interacting with a character outside of their canon that they have never interacted with before. The thread should be at least six tags (three from you, three from them) long. Everyone who signs up in this manner will get something, but the RNG will determine what. And, if you get something that's useless to your character, trade and barter are always a great way to get some new CR. Some items will be practical, some will be metaplot significant, and some will just be crack. After all, you're rooting through the belongings of two mortal women and a very grouchy Nysgod (may he rest in peace).

So what exactly happened to Skokan?
PCs who have taken the time to learn a little bit about Nysgod culture will recognize that Skokan was "Carved Out."

Hey, I was in the dollhouse and I remember my character hearing "famished" in the air, just as described in the Tundra setting. Is that the same thing?
You betcha. If you have no idea what this question is asking, however, don't worry about it.

What kinds of plots can we expect to take place in the Wyld?
In addition to all metaplot-related shenanigans, the Wyld is a place between worlds. Realities tend to bleed into each other a lot. There will likely be cameo appearances of creatures, objects, and situations from the canons of game characters. Reality will warp a lot. We will also run the gamut from crack to horror. As always, there will be opt-out options.

What about player plot?
We definitely want player plot. If you have an idea for a plot you would like to run, but can't find a way to make it work with the baseline setting, please contact the mods. We will happily create a mechanism for your plot to become a reality.

Why did we end up in this setting?
IC actions. OOC, the next setting was determined by the apology plot. There were four different scenarios, depending on how many characters signed the apology (less than 25%, 25-50%, 50-75%, or more than 75%), with a weight added for the hackers. This is the scenario to come out of what happened if more than 75% signed. Because the other scenarios might still come into play at some point down the line, the mods can't tell you what the alternatives were.

I really don't like this setting. How long are we stuck here?
Every setting in the game lasts at least a few OOC months. Player actions can often determine how long it lasts. Keep in mind, however, it takes the mods a few months to come up with each setting (and we're functioning on half a team right now). Please be patient and try to find something enjoyable about the setting. Remember, this is a game that moves. It will move again.

On a totally unrelated note...is there an AC for February?
Nope. Because of the move, we're going to suspend AC for the month of February. Everyone is good. If you plan to drop a character, however, please tell us. The mods are not psychic and we can't track every single plurk that flies around.

I have a million, billion, zillion more questions!

They still get pulled back even if they don't violate the 3 day rule? Sorry, I'm just trying make sure I've got it right.

Cool, thanks--that's exactly what I wanted to know!
