As the dust begins to settle from the foul (fowl?) situation caused by the Cuccos, some new faces are going to be popping up in Mannaz Hall. On Day 384, a team of scientists will arrive, claiming to have been sent by Mithos. Whether this gesture is due to the things the candidates said to him, or to the fact that the servants complained about picking feathers out of the tapestries is unclear. But what is clear is that their objective is to try to fix the Grasp.

Of course, nothing goes as planned in this game. And the scientists lack the mad spark of genius that Skokan possessed. So in their efforts to do some repair work…they’ll be causing something curious to happen.

The multiverse is occasionally a redundant place. Certain faces seem to be repeated over and over again. And in trying to fix the Grasp, the scientists will accidentally cause some of these repeated faces to be superimposed onto the candidates.

What does this mean? Stepping away from the poetic language of plotting, it means it’s time to focus a little on your character’s PB. On Day 384, candidates may find their bodies possessed by other characters from the multiverse who share their face. For example, let’s say someone plays Barney from How I Met Your Mother. Barney is played by Neil Patrick Harris. Neil Patrick Harris also played Doctor Horrible from Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog. On Day 384, if Barney’s player opts into the plot, then Barney’s body will be temporarily taken over by Doctor Horrible.

The effects of the botched repair work will last two days in game, Days 384-385 (May 19-24). The Nysgod scientists will quickly realize their error and reverse it in that time.

And, of course, no complicated plot is complete without some FAQs…

We all have a face that we hide away forever… )

The event post for landing is here and it may be pushed down on some people's lists, due to being posted earlier but kept invisible.

Welcome to Mannaz Hall, the newest setting for this portion of the metaplot. It's located in the capitol city of Niflhiem, Dagaz. You can read more about the Hall itself here. Below are some FAQs:

So we're back in Niflheim, then?
You bet we are. Purple skies and all. Those who were around when the game was first set in Dagaz will be able to notice some small differences in the distant skyline. For example, some of the taller buildings have disappeared, lost to the meteor showers. As has the Waiting Room. Although the city is clear of debris, the attack definitely left its mark.

Can we go into the city of Dagaz?
At the moment, no. However, if a consortium of characters (at least five) want to come together to figure out a way to convince an NPC (any NPC they like) to let them take day trips into the city, we would encourage that. Please log it out. Get to know some new muses.

I noticed the Egime is still available for use. What if my character doesn't want to leave?
Your character is more than welcome to stay on the Egime. Keep in mind, it's running at half power and not being restocked by the NPCs. But certainly, no Nysgod will drag anyone out.

Would we be able to access the mysterious eighth and ninth decks?
As with getting into Dagaz, if a group of five or more characters decide to get together to try and pry the doors open, we will allow it. We will ask you to log out the planning and make sure to include a magic expert, an engineering expert, and someone really strong, but you can work this combination of skills in any way you want. Feel free to use this post to do some plotting.

Hey, Quinn's around in that arrival log. Can I talk to him?
There will be a thread posted for interactions with Quinn, with specific directions. Please check back in the here for more information.

What's the deal with the trial?
For this portion of the metaplot, an ongoing side-story will be the trial of Quinn and Casey. Candidates will be allowed to call witnesses and question them on the network. Witnesses can be NPCs or PCs. See the setting page for more information about the process. PCs will be influencing the outcome of the trial and the next steps of the metaplot, so please don't be shy about jumping right in. Also, please keep in mind, the trial will not be the only metaplot taking place. I repeat: THE TRIAL WILL NOT BE THE ONLY METAPLOT TAKING PLACE. There will still be plenty for you to do, even if you don't want to be involved in the trial.

What's the deal with the cursed library books?
The cursed library books are primarily to facilitate player plot. Players are encouraged to come up with their own curses. As with the docking events, we will ask you to speak to the mods and write up a full plotting post with FAQs before posting anything to the OOC comm, but we do encourage you to be as creative as you like.

Can my character contact NPCs by network?
Yes and no. Your character is welcome to try to contact any of the NPCs, but mileage may vary, depending on if the character is in Niflheim or not. Contacting someone like Uri or Adriana will be much easier than trying to contact someone like Jaan, who may be out of town, or Casey, who may be out of her mind. Talk to the mods if you have questions.

You suck at FAQs so much. I have a bunch of questions you haven't answered.
Well, that's rude. But, at any rate, you are welcome to ask them here. And to use this post as a plotting post, if you so desire.

Good morning, players. I'm leaving this post for any questions players might have about the current event. As stated before, this is just part one of two.

A few quick points:

-The elevators and network are still functioning
-Characters may get as injured or as uninjured a you like
-There is no "safe zone" on the ship, but if you want your character to just hunker down in their room, you are welcome to do so
-Anyone familiar with space travel might equate what's going on to a ship trying to fight against a tractor beam

Feel free to post any other questions here.

Part two will go up on Sunday, on what would be the end of Day 363.

Welcome to Oria Minora, the smallest planet of the Orion group. On day 355 the Egime will land in the trading centre of Verex III, the capital city of Oria Minora. It is famed for its stunning views of the deserts, temples to The Goddess and the universe famous Orion slavegirls that are both trained and sold in the great city itself. The city is a literal oasis in the middle of an arid and unpleasant environment. The city is built into an octagonal shape with a circular main city centre sitting in the middle. Verex III is protected from the harshness of the desert land that it was built on by a protective deflector shield. Exits to the city are closely guarded and not an option of non-citizens. Why would you want to go outside when inside the city is simply so beautiful and full of wonders?Read more under the cut. )

Hello, players! My name is Lily, for those who don’t know, and I’m here to kick off the New Year with news of your first docking event for 2015 that is set to start on January 13th and last until the 24th (Day 341-344). I am super excited about it and hope you will be, too. So let’s get on with it, shall we?

In the early morning hours on Day 341, the Egime will touch down in Aspasia and remain until Day 344. As the gang plank lowers, candidates are met with a view that will no doubt take their breath away when they realise that this is no modern city, but one set so far back in time that it can only be read about it in books.

Though smaller in comparison to some of the other cities within the region, Aspasia is quickly growing to be the primary hub for all trade with its quick access to the Demitria Sea, as well as the rest of the country inland. Spices, textiles, animals, pottery, literature can all be found easily and in abundance throughout the city in various markets and temples.

While it seems Aspasia is happy and content, it mourns the passing of their King, Bion the Great. In his death, the citizens celebrate his life, and their freedom because of him with a month long festival in his honor that sounds throughout day and night in the various streets, temples and squares. Yet, there seems to be even more troubling the citizens and that is the fear of impending war. If asked, the Aspasian’s will be forthright with their fears of their beloved city being captured by the power hungry Golgotha empire who will convert and/or destroy the Aspasian’s; their culture and tradition exchanged in favor of their own. They know that those who resist will be enslaved, or killed and they know it will be a war that they will lose now that Bion is gone and has left no heir to the throne. They fear their army - less by more than half of Golgotha’s - will be forced into submission.

They are too vulnerable now without their king. But, they know they must fight.

Now they are curious if the arrival of the Egime is a gift from the heavens above and their deceased King to aid in their victory.

Will you let it fall into Golgotha’s hands? Or will you help Aspasia keep control of their beloved city?

FAQ this way! )

Hi, players. December is generally a pretty busy month for people, so this month, we’ll be having a relatively low-key, longer-than-usual metaplot event. Please read the entire post, however, as there are two optional sign-ups involved. The morning of Day 329 (December 8-10), the Egime is going to touch down. Every Net Box in the state rooms will spring to life, the usual handwritten note on the screen:

Welcome to Shaldani. We’ll be here for five days. DO NOT enter any building other than the castle.

The gangplank will open, leading the candidates out to a field, just beside a beautiful castle. Unfortunately, it looks like Shaldani has seen better days. The landscape around the castle is decidedly ragged. Dead grass crunches beneath characters’ feet. And most of the trees appear to be dead as well, bare branches cutting up through the sky like something out of a Tim Burton movie. There’s a lot of rubble around, broken wagon wheels and makeshift graves. Something terrible clearly happened here. Of course, there are other buildings within the five-mile radius of the Egime. And really, are PCs all that cooperative? NOPE! There will be several places that the candidates can visit over the course of the five days:

Fun fact! I still always have to look up the coding for a cut! I suck! )

As some of you may have noticed on the log comm, everyone's (?) favorite (?) mad scientist is running loose on the Egime. For those of you who are newer to our community, Casey was one of two humans original assigned to act as a liaison between the candidates and the Nysgods. She was left behind when the game moved from Gebo to the Wyld and hasn't been seen since, other than a strange network post.

Something isn't right with our girl. But if I told you what it was, there would be no point in this thing we do called "role play." This is part of the metaplot, so feel free to do some snooping. To mix things up (and for the sake of mod sanity), however, I'm going to lay down a few ground rules for tagging into Casey's log. Please read these over BEFORE you tag in, and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Players may tag Casey in groups of two or more. There will be no single, one-on-one interactions with her. If you tag in solo, without a group, Casey will not reply. Your group can be as large as you want, but it must have a minimum of two characters. Also, for added fun, groups must represent at least two canons.
Bogus Group: Bruce Banner and Tony Stark (they're in the same canon)

Awesome Group: Bruce Banner and Bruce Wayne (they come from different canons)

Another Awesome Group: Bruce Banner, Bruce Wayne, and Tony Stark (at least two canons are represented here)

Still with me so far? Good!

Now, to keep things organized, the first person to tag in for a group should put character names in the subject of the tag. So, let's say our friends the Bruces are going to tag Casey. Bruce Banner goes first. In his tag, he writes "Bruce Banner and Bruce Wayne" in the subject line. After he posts, Bruce Wayne goes next. THEN Casey will join them.

Those are the rules for this particular surprise event. Feel free to look for threadmates by using this post as a plotting post, or else feel free to connect with fellow players by social media or PM. Threading with new characters is, as always, highly encouraged.

Finally, a few things to note about Casey's log:

1. Casey is not wearing her earpiece; only one PC actually speaks Casey's native language and I play her (mwahaha), but this doesn't mean you won't be able to communicate! You still have YOUR earpieces, after all.
2. There is a lot of metaplot in this scene, but you don't need to be interested in metaplot to play.
3. Any characters attempting to use special abilities on Casey should contact me BEFORE the attempt, so I can tell you what happens or if it's even possible.
4. Casey's going to come off erratic and strange; the thread may be long or it may be short; it will probably be frustrating. Please understand that whatever the result, it has nothing to do with how I feel about you or your characters IC or OOC. I'm just playing the character in her current state of mind.

Leave questions in the appropriate subthread below. Otherwise, game on!

Polar Vortex!

In the middle of the night on day 299, something has gone amiss. The temperature ship wide begins to slowly drop, filling the rooms with a biting low cold. It's as though winter has come to the Engime. Over the day, the walls and floors will slowly cover with ice and in the various lounges, it's begun to snow, coating tabletops and seats alike with a soft white blanket.

There's been a malfunction in the holodecks having to do with the recent fiddlings of Seth and a small group of people and now, it's a mere 15 °F. (That's -10 ºC) Thankfully, there's no wind chill to take into account. The Cargo Bay is the only place that seems to escape this cold but only the worst of it. It's more livable temperature comes out to only just above freezing.

The cold will last until late in day 301 when the ship slowly starts warming back up to it's amicable warmer temperatures.

So what shall you do? Cuddle with a buddy? Huddle under your blankets? Well now, that's up to you, isn't it.

Please note that this is a player plot and has nothing to do with the metaplot.

FAQ

1.Is this caused by magic?
No, it's a technical malfunction.

2. Can it be fixed with magic?
No, and any attempt to fix it at the source will fail.

3. My character is a vampire, will they be effected?
Yes, as the temperatures will be below freezing.

4. Are the blankets provided in the rooms thick enough?
Yes, they are heavier styled comforters.

5.I have another question that you didn't already answer.
Wonderful, just place your questions here and we'll answer them as readily as we can.

Hi, players.

Just dropping a few minor updates. The next docking event is on the calendar for the end of September (Day 305-307). More details will be coming in a few weeks. It's going to be a massive plot and there are a lot of moving pieces going into it, so please be patient as plans are finalized.

In the meanwhile, there will probably be some more metaplot drops happening before then.

Also, for the next couple weeks, from Day 296 to Day 302, the candidates might notice something strange in the corridors of the Egime. There appears to be a little dog running loose. It's a male St. Charles Spaniel, about one year old.

Feel free to have your characters run into the dog. It's very friendly and likes to play. If your character tries to harm it in any way, however, they will immediately black out and wake up an hour later in the cargo hold. And yes, this includes trying to eat the dog.

Ask any other questions on this post!

In the wee, small hours of the morning on Day 287, the Egime lands with a soft thud. This is quickly followed by the gently rocking motion of waves, signaling that the ship has touched down in water. But not just any water. The Egime has landed at the port of a sprawling town known as An-Teng. It's a beautiful village, with technology on par with medieval India. The climate, too, is comparable. It's hot and humid, just shy of being oppressive.

The town is filled with shops and markets, selling a variety of items, largely luxury. Besides clothing and jewels and spices, there are plenty of brothels. Beautiful men and women stand in the open entryways, dressed in scraps of silk that barely cover them up. Actually, the entire population seems scantily clad, even those who aren't trying to sell themselves. As it happens, the Egime has docked during a festival season known as "Calibration." Ask any passerby and she'll tell you that Calibration is the time when the gods partake in a twelve-day feast. The natural order of things is skewed, the walls between the spirit realm and the realm of the living thinner than usual. It's not a safe time to travel, so all foreigners are welcomed with open arms and there's dancing and music everywhere.

And what party would be complete without ample amounts of alcohol? In fact, a local tavern, called Garnet Dawn, is offering free drinks to everyone. But, of course, since it's Calibration, these drinks will have some unusual effects on any candidates who decide to partake:
Mother's Milk is a warm, spiced drink resembling chai tea. It's spiked however, laced with some strange kind of brandy that no candidates are familiar with. Drinking this beverage puts a candidate into a deep, deep sleep, about five minutes after the first sip. The sleep is so profound that one's heart beats only once a minute and someone can easily be mistaken for dead. During this time, body and soul are parted, and the unfortunate candidate will find themselves walking around like a ghost. No one will be able to see them, save for others who have had a drink of Mother's Milk. The effects will last approximately twenty four hours.

Melted Amber tastes suspiciously like rum. In fact, it might just be rum, although there's an unusually salty aftertaste to it. Drinking this beverage connects people to the spirit realm in a unique way. Twenty four hours following their first sip, the candidates who drink Melted Amber will find that they're being followed by what looks like the ghost of someone who they knew, who died. The ghost will be completely silent, although it may make gestures or mouth a few words. And the emotional state of this ghost will resemble the emotional state of the person before they died, at least in the drinker's mind.

Gilded Lily is a sophisticated red wine, with just a hint of pear to it. A sip of Gilded Lily and candidates will find themselves thrown into a religious fervor. Whatever they believe in, they will feel the need to preach, celebrate, and worship in their own, given way. Perhaps they feel they've too-long ignored their religious inclinations and want to repent. Perhaps they'll want to celebrate all of their favorite holidays at once. Or maybe they'll just decide that the chosen o hymns of their religion are the most beautiful songs in the world and ought to be shared with anyone and everyone. Again, this will last only twenty four hours.

In addition to the alcoholic fun times, there will be several NPCs for candidates to interact with. Among others, they can chat with a merchant, a barkeep at the Garnet Dawn, or an errant Nysgod (what, you thought they were history?) during the visit to An-Teng. Watch the comms for these opportunities.

At the end of Day 289, the Egime will depart, pulling all the candidates along with it. As always, any weapons obtained during their stay will vanish.

And now, for everyone's favorite: FAQs!

What kind of items can I buy/steal/barter in this place?
An-Teng is primarily a port of luxury, selling fine but largely unessential products. Use medieval India as a basis for comparison. Goods include fine silks, spices, jewelry, linen, and other types of decoration. There is plenty of food available, most of it being sold cheap in taverns or market stalls. You can also purchase an evening with an attractive boy or girl, but you do run the risk of catching syphilis (I will leave it to individual players to decide on that one). You won't find a lot of books, farming equipment, or educational tools in the area. And most of the weapons being sold are largely decorative and not very useful. As for medical supplies, what An-Teng has to offer is fairly rudimentary. The population, it seems, relies heavily on magic for their healing. There are a few Viagra-type potions available, though. Just saying...

Hey! Hey! You said "steal!" Can I steal stuff?
Since the event is taking place during Calibration, it is possible to steal small trinkets here and there. Only little things you can fit in the palm of your hand, however.
Speaking of Calibration, I'm familiar with Exalted and this sounds weird...
Exalted is a very complicated system. I have simplified it for the purposes of this event. And for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, don't worry about it.

How do I interact with the NPCs?
Watch the comms. They will have their own posts. The NPCs will be played by Wizera and Arma. We're only human, so please be patient with us if we're a little slow.

Will there be metaplot involved with this plot?
You betcha. But, as always, participation in the metaplot is largely optional. For that matter, participation in the drinking is entirely optional.

Can my character find out what the alcohol does before taking a swig?
Only if they chat with the barkeep. Otherwise, they're drinking blind and will suffer the consequences unknowingly.

Okay, so, my character drinks Mother's Milk and has an out-of-body experience. That means no one can see them?
No people who are awake. But other victims of Mother's Milk can see each other. And yes, if they want to go into one of the brothels and watch things, no one will ever know. But they absolutely cannot communicate in any way with anyone else. No writing things out in sand, no blood messages on the walls. They are as intangible as they are invisible, except to each other.

Can they use this out of body experience to go through the hull of the ship and up to the sealed decks?
Nope. Attempting to do so will result in an experience, similar to what happened to Tara, but without the voice.

All right. Let's say my character drinks the Melted Amber and sees dead people. Can other people see these dead people?
By and large, no one else can see the ghost haunting the drinker except for the drinker. There is one exception. If the person who drank the Melted Amber shares a bodily fluid with another person (through blood drinking, sex, or a super messy kiss) then the other person will be able to see the ghost as well. If a bunch of people are all drinking together, however, they will each get their own, unique ghost. And will not be able to see anyone else's ghost.

About these ghosts...who can they be?
They can be anyone the drinker knows or knew who died. This also includes people who died and were revived or died and came back as a vampire/zombie/whatever. They will see that person at the exact moment of their death, however. Not as they are presently, if they're alive. I'm also going to rule that a ghost cannot be any active PCs in game.

Okay, let's talk about the Gilded Lily. I'm not sure how to interpret that effect.
The explanation was left intentionally broad. You can interpret it as you like. One person might insist that they drop everything and celebrate Christmas (presents for everyone!) while another person will run around, trying to convert everyone to the ancient Mayan religion. Please be sensitive to your fellow players, and mark things with trigger warnings as necessary.

Can my character experience more than one alcoholic effect?
At the same time? No. But since each only lasts 24 hours, feel free to go back for seconds or thirds, if you so desire.

How do sunlight rules work for vampires in this setting?
Although there will be sunrise and sunset, the sun in the world of An-Teng works very differently from the sun of Earth-fame. In fact, it's a sentient god. Therefore, sunlight rules will not apply for vampires. Feel free to go get a tan.

Yo, dawg. I have more questions and you better have more answers.
Ask them here, in the thread that's conveniently labeled "Questions." Please, please, please do not ask them on plurk.

Feel free to use this post for plotting!

On the morning of Day 276, just around the time the sky begins to lighten, the gangplank to the Egime closes. Aside from a soft, mechanical whirr, those on board don't really notice any change.

Those still in the Wyld, however, will have a different experience.

As the gangplank closes, the water around the Egime begins to ripple. With surprising grace, for such a bluntly designed vessel, the Egime rises into the air. For a moment, it hovers, churning the waters beneath. And then, with an unexpected jolt of speed, it rips up into the air. And then, it's as if it rips through the air. The sky almost seems to resemble tissue paper as the Egime breaks through the filament. One watching can just barely view a swirling vortex of light and color (colors beyond the mortal spectrum) churning on the other side.

And then, every person still in the Wyld will feel the shadows of the Grasp close in around them, stumbling blindly and dizzily into the Egime's cargo hold.

The ship, now in transit, has become the primary new setting for this portion of the metaplot.

Please read this page, all the way to the bottom, for an explanation of the ship. And then, make sure to scan the following FAQs for more information.

I'm a little confused. Can you give me the short version of what just happened?
Long story short, some of the candidates built a new engine for the ship, using the Grasp. The Grasp, which brought PCs into the game in the first place, has a connection to each character, so it pulled all the candidates on board and it will tether them to the ship for this phase of the plot. As for who or what is piloting the ship, that's a mystery. All the PCs know, at this point, is that someone is flying it and that there are certain parts of the ship (Decks 7-9 and the cockpit) that they cannot access.

But my character wanted to stay in the Wyld!
Every character is tethered to the Grasp. So where the Grasp goes, the candidates go. Unfortunately, we don't have the capacity to run more than one setting at a time.

My character had a lot of stuff in the Wyld. Do they get to keep it?
All of your characters' possessions are in their hands. If they decided to move their things on board, after they were warned that the ship would be departing (Day 275), then it's on board with them. If they stubbornly refused to pack and board, all of their things, except for what they were carrying or wearing at the time the Egime left the Wyld, will be left behind.

What about things from the Wyld itself?
The various plants, fruits, nuts, and fish native to the Wyld will turn to dust within three hours of leaving the Wyld. There's nothing extraordinary about the dust. It's just dust. Anything that was conjured in the Wyld (for example, if Glinda conjured up a sparkly dress) will remain unchanged.

So what's on the ship?
I will refer you once more to this page for a summary of what the Egime is like. Feel free to ask specific questions on that page and also check out this page which has some specific questions about the ship from players. For everyone's reference, the Egime is significantly smaller than the Wyld, the dormitories in Gebo, or Othala Temple. Candidates should feel like they're in closer quarters than usual. Feel free to play with that theme. Fight over the bathroom! Walk into each other's bedrooms! Bump into people more often! Ships are generally designed to be small and conserve as much space as possible. The furniture itself might be a little too small for your character's liking.

Will there be an event log for the departure?
There are no plans for one. Please feel free to have your characters reacting to what's happened in any way you wish.

How will new characters be arriving in the game?
New characters will arrive in the cargo hold. Unless PCs want to take responsibility for it, Insa will continue to give the "welcome speech."

Am I reading this correctly? We can run player plots in our canon universes?
That is correct, but make sure to read all of the instructions and remember that you must run your idea by a mod before posting anything to the OOC comm. Each canon world will come with its own rules and restrictions, so everything will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and what may work for one world may not work for another. Once more, please read this page thoroughly. You can find an (intentionally silly) example of a player plot here.

What the hell is up with Casey?
A very good question. Those familiar with her scent (she kinda smells like burnt hair) or lifeforce may detect traces of her on board the ship, from time to time. More to come.

I still have a million, billion, gazillion, google times infinity questions and you didn't answer them here or on this page!
Feel free to ask them on this post or on the setting post. Make sure, before you ask a question, to check and see if someone else has already asked the same question. And please do not ask questions on plurk, unless those questions are along the lines of "Can I give you a cookie?" or "Who put the bop in the bop-she-bop?" (For the record, the answers are "Yes" and "Anne Boleyn," respectively.)

Hello, players.

Two very quick announcements, one about IC stuff one about OOC stuff.

IC Stuff
As the sun begins to set on Day 263, and all of you are stirring from your wonderful dreams (thanks a lot, Boyd, Anakin, and Draco), another lightning storm will rip through the heavens. As with the last one, the astute observer might notice a pattern that repeats several times, in the rolls and short strikes of thunder:

One long roll, six short strikes, two long rolls, three short strikes, one long roll, two short strikes, one long roll, three short strikes, two long rolls, five short strikes, an two long rolls.

Have fun with that.

OOC Stuff
I am aware that a lot of people are becoming frustrated and tired of the Wyld setting. I want to reassure you that your feelings are known. And I want you to know that new settings are currently being written. I would like to ask for your patience because 1) I want the next setting to be determined based on player action and 2) I am only one small person with a day job, a very time consuming evening avocation, really, really bad html skillz, and, as those of you following my plurks know, a totally insane family.

A new setting is on the way and a lot of player action has set the next phase of the metaplot in motion. Please, please bear with me while I put everything in place and I know that I understand your frustration and I share it and I will do everything in my power to shake things up as soon as possible.

Thank you!

As the day draws to a close on Day 257, the lightning in the sky gets erratic and more frequent than usual. The thunder strikes and rolls in long and short bursts. The astute (or bored) individual might pick up on a strange pattern that repeats itself five times:

A short strike, two long rolls, six short strikes, one long roll, and two more short strikes.

After that, the sky falls back into silence for awhile.

What caused it? Is the Wyld angry again? Was it a warning? Have your fellow candidates been up to something?

Good questions!

Which I'm not answering now.

Hi players!

It's great to see that everyone's already engaged and having fun with species swapping. Don't forget! As of today, the Wyld is officially swarming with some very shy and very musical demons!
shadowmods: (Default)
[personal profile] shadowmods
While Hesiod and many other Nysgods would like to believe that they are the only race in the Known Worlds who know of and access the Wyld, this is hardly the case. In fact, as it turns out, the Wyld is also the mating ground for several demonoid species. And guess what time of the year it is!

Starting on Day 252, the candidates may begin to notice strange music in the air. Some of it is flute, some of it is wordless vocals. Anyone who investigates may find themselves led to small ponds in the forest, damp crevices in the mountains, or the farthest corners of the beach, underneath rock overhangs. There, they will see a strange and beautiful race of demons. These are Alastrians. Built like slender humanoids, they have pale, green skin, the color of mint toothpaste. Although they are largely androgynous, the females have breasts. Both males and females wear their hair incredibly long and the colors come in a wide range of pastels, seemingly at random. As far as clothing is concerned, they seem to favor skintight bodysocks in dark, earthy tones. The careful observer might notice that Alastrians have retractable claws and wings, both black.

Observers will need to be careful. Although anyone can, from afar, spot the demons, paired off two-by-two, holding hands and touching their heads together as a white light passes between them, anyone who gets too close will be detected. Alastrians have noses like bloodhounds and the second they smell outsiders, they will scamper off, too fast to be caught.

In their flight, the Alastrians' hair may happen to catch on some stones or branches. The hair is beautiful and wispy, no matter the color. It also happens to be a fantastic conductor of power. In the Harry Potter world, Alastrian hair might serve as a remarkable wand core. In the Wyld, however, it will cause a bit of a different problem.

Should two characters happen to touch a piece of Alastrian hair at the same time, that hair is going to do exactly what it's supposed to do: Conduct power. Thanks to the Wyld, this will result in the two characters being thrown apart and knocked unconscious by a wave of power. When they wake up, they will not remember the last ten minutes. But that probably won't be their biggest concern because they will have switched species. The swap will last for two IC days, after which, the Wyld will set things right again, knocking them both unconscious and allowing them to wake up as themselves again.

And now for some FAQs...

Do I have to participate in this plot? I don't really like it.
Participation is entirely optional, as always. We do hope you'll, at least, be willing to interact with some of your swapped friends, though!

Who do I get to swap with?
Anyone you want. Since there was some complaints about the memory plot being too mod-controlled, we're opening this one up to you. You may swap with anyone you wish. Of course, as always, we encourage you to use this plot to make new CR. We're also going to ask that you do not swap with any of your own characters.

Can I swap more than once?
Yes and no. Every swap must run the course of a full two days IC. That said, your character may swap again with someone else after they turn back. The reason why we're instituting ten minutes of amnesia is so that it takes longer for PCs to realize that it's the Alastrian hair that's causing the swapping. By Day 256, the Alastrians will be gone and their hair will gradually drift away. Therefore, you can swap one or two times, as you wish.

So what does this swap entail, exactly?
You and your partner will swap species. This includes everything from powers to appearance. Your character will retain their own memories, however. And just because they have an ability, that doesn't mean they automatically know how to use it!

My character is a human with special abilities. Can they swap with a baseline human?
Yes. For the purpose of this plot, we're going to count mutants, wizards, Jedi, witches, vessels, etc. as separate species from baseline humans. You can negotiate this with your scene partner(s). We trust your judgment when it comes to your own characters and their abilities.

Will our characters remember everything they did during the swap, once it's over?
Yes. Everything but the last ten minutes of their time swapped, just as they won't remember the ten minutes leading up to the swap.

Hey! I'd like to talk to one of those Alastrians. Would it be possible to catch one?
No. It's not possible to catch an Alastrian. However, there are going to be some Alastrian NPCs (lovingly played by Wizera and Arma) who will be available to chat. An open log will go up, probably on Day 253. MCU and Star Wars casts, please be advised, one of the NPCs is going to be PBed by a (green) Natalie Portman. If you wish to avoid dealing with facetwin shenanigans, check in with the mods when the log goes up.

But I voted for the musical plot...
The vote was a very close call. The mods would like to encourage the players who were interested in the musical plot to pursue it. We are willing to help out. It just won't be part of the metaplot, like this one. Talk to each other! The Wyld is a place full of possibilities and we have a lot of magical characters. There is so much room for things to go wrong! In a musical way!

Wizera, you are the worst at FAQs. I still have so many questions!
Feel free to ask them in the appropriate sub-thread below. Otherwise, you are free to use this post as a plotting post.

The Wyld is a place between worlds, thinner than paper but bigger than the sky. And it's everywhere, worlds constantly brushing up against it, applying pressure, creating friction. It's no wonder, then, that occasionally, something will break. And when it does, what do you get? A Wyld Storm.

Hello, players.

We hope that everyone is settling comfortably into the Wyld setting. But, of course, since we don't want your characters to get too comfortable, we're gearing up for our first Wyld event. The details of the event will come in a future post, but we need to start getting ready ahead of time. Which means this is a plot sign up.

The upcoming event will involve memories: Specifically, truly horrific memories from your characters' past (everyone has 'em, or we wouldn't be playing them!). These memories are going to be revealed in the course of the event.

So here's show it works: If you're interested in having one of your character's memories revealed, comment to the sign-up thread below with a write-up or youtube video of the memory (if your write up is very, very long, we ask that you post it to your own character journal and provide a link to that post). This is purely optional, of course. And you can sign up more than one character, if you so desire.

You may be wondering just how your memory is going to be revealed. We'll explain more about that when we break the event, but for now, what you need to know is that one other character (who signs up for the event with a memory) will be randomly assigned to receive your memory. Again, the magical RNG will determine who gets to see your memory. So make sure it's something you (OOCly) want shared with a potential stranger.

Once again. Everyone who signs up with a memory will be randomly paired up with another character who posts a memory for the plot.

Comment to the sign-up thread with the memory by Wednesday, March 19 to be included in this event.

As always, comment to the questions thread with any questions.

QUICK EDIT: Please put your character's name in the subject of the comment to the sign-up to make mod life easier!!

Welcome to the Wyld! The next segment of the metaplot will be taking place in this setting. Please take a moment to read the description of the setting on the mod journal, which can be found here. Read it carefully. It has a lot of important details that will help to guide you in the events that follow.

Below is an FAQ for players. It also has some information about a sign-up in this post.

Pretend there's something witty written here... )

Hello, players! As you already know, the game is moving! The situation the candidates will find themselves in, after the move, has been built entirely around the results of the signatures. For the record, over 75% of the people who replied to the OOC post replied that their characters would be signing.

On March 1, a narration and event log will go up, explaining things in greater detail. For now, here are some FAQs about what your characters will be doing in the time leading up to the move.

What can my character pack?
Whatever your character can carry (or convince another PC to carry for them). The Nysgods and NPCs will not be helping characters to carry anything. So, no, you can't bring your bed from Gebo...unless you want to haul it.

You mentioned that bed from Gebo...can my character steal stuff?
Absolutely! The people of Gebo will probably chalk up missing equipment or inventory to a miscalculation and pull extra shifts to compensate for it, as long as they don't see the stolen equipment or see the actual theft. In other words, keep it quiet and keep it hidden. No. No bed. But take as many uniforms as you wish.

Hey, my character got one of those handy-dandy carpet bags that's bigger on the inside. Can they take more stuff than they can carry?
They can take what they can fit into the bag. The mods are not going to police the limits there. We're all intelligent adults, we're going to trust you. A character with a bag could certainly barter favors with someone who needs packing room, however. If your character does not have a bag and needs something to pack in, they will be offered a regular suitcase. Nothing magical about it.

Do I need to declare what my character is packing?
No. We're not going to mod or police that. But it will be helpful for you to have a sense of what your character has with them.

Do characters still need to go to work?
No more than they ever needed to. They are more than welcome to continue working, if they'd like to save up credits to buy extra stuff, but no one will force them.

How will the characters be moving to the new location?
Nysgod magic. All characters will be rounded up into the same area, the day of the event. This does mean that all characters will be together. If your character has been avoiding someone else, they still can. We figure the area will be pretty crowded, so it'll be easy to duck out of sight. Again, we're going to trust you.

What if my character wants to stay in Gebo?
Obviously, the Nysgods can't force a character to leave. That said, we will strongly encourage you to find a reason for your character to go. There will be no moderated events in Gebo once the game setting changes and travel between cities is more or less a no-go for PCs (at present, subject to change). You will have exceedingly limited opportunities for RP if your character stays behind.

What's the new setting going to be like?
That's a very good question. Unfortunately, no characters can seem to get much of an answer. Skokan is vague at best, mostly referring to it as "empty" and "unsettled" and "a plane." OOC, we just don't want to ruin any of the surprises too much. Because there are going to be surprises. A lot of them. Seriously. Trust us.

Hey, Skokan was talking about something along the lines of "Carved Out." What the heck does that mean?
Carving Out is the Nysgod ceremony that ends a Nysgod's life. You can read more about it here. This is all common and public knowledge, readily available to anyone who asks around.

Hold up! My character is totally new and has no idea what's going on!
What a great CR-building opportunity. Talk to the PCs and handwave what you wish from the NPCs.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaait! I still have questionsssssssss!
Ask them here. Once again, we are trying to get away from using plurk to answer mod questions.

With the dawn of Day 225 (Thursday, January 30), all of the factories and workshops of Gebo are up and running again. You've never seen the natives happier, in fact. There's definitely a sense of celebration in the air and everyone is whistling while they work. As an extra special treat, some of the more ostentatious luxury goods are going on the line today. The citizens of Gebo are eager to show their gratitude, both to the Seers and the candidates who helped with the repair efforts.

So what does this mean for you? Although the candidates will be returning to their usual jobs (or not), as a token of gratitude, the citizens of Gebo will let each candidate pick one item from the day's surplus of extra special goods. In other words, each candidate will be allow to choose one (1) of the following:

Sleigh Bells: These magical, silver sleigh bells come in sets of two. The two bells are attuned to one another. What does this mean? When one rings, the other always rings. It doesn't matter how far apart they are. One could be in the barracks and another could be in a park. If one rings, the other will immediately ring. Could be useful. Or annoying.

Nanobot Shampoo: Ostensibly, it's a twenty-ounce bottle of shampoo. It's a pearly lavender color and smells faintly of lemon. But there's more to it than meets the eye. A candidate who washes his or her hair with this shampoo is in for a bit of a surprise! After one washing, a person's hair is suddenly filled with nanobots. These nanobots are very, very basic machines that can do one thing and one thing only: Transform the color of your hair. The nanobots will pick up on mental signals from your mind and translate them into hair color. Think "red" and suddenly your hair is red. Think "plaid" and suddenly your hair is plaid. You can do this as many times as you wish! These nanobots cannot be reprogrammed in any way. They'll last about a week in your hair, although they can last indefinitely in the bottle.

Carpet Bag: Cut from a floral, carpet fabric, this bag is about the size of a large purse. On the outside. Not surprisingly, it's bigger on the inside. In fact, it can store up to five times its apparent volume, but there are some catches. You cannot put any living thing in the bag. These are also Nysgod bags of Nysgod magic, which means they'll immediately spit up weapons. And probably burp. The bags cannot be cut or twisted into other shapes. In other words, you're Mary Poppins.

The Game: This deceptively simple game is worn over the eyes and ears, like a pair of glasses. Once activated by a little button on one side, the game generates a holographic field that only the user can see. The rules of the game are fairly simple: The user mentally tries to navigate the red disks into the purple cones. The levels increase in difficulty, with obstacles appearing out of nowhere. When a level is cleared, the player feels intense wave of pleasure that lasts about a minute. How this pleasure manifests itself is up to the individual character. It could be an incredibly pleasant aroma, a strain of music, or sexual satisfaction. The choice is left entirely to the player and it can change each time. (For those of you familiar with the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, The Game, this is the same game, but without the sexy Ktarian woman using it for mind control. In other words, it's not evil, it's exactly what it's advertised to be.)

Mini Mirror of Erised: This small handmirror seems ordinary at first. Stare into the glass long enough, however, and you'll see your reflection change. You will see yourself as you desire to be. It's basically a smaller version of the Harry Potter mirror of the same name.

Roc's Cape: Cut from a yellowy-gold fabric, the cape is fastened around the neck by a copper clasp, shaped like a Triforce. It falls about midway down the back and really isn't much of a fashion statement. Wearers feel lighter than before, however, an extra spring in their step. They will also realize, very quickly, that they can jump farther than before. They almost seem to glide, up to about fifty feet. They don't fly. What goes up must come down and a fall from up high will hurt. But it's a great way to try base jumping.

Furby: It's a Furby. It's exactly what it sounds like. The Nysgods can't seem to get enough of these. We always knew they were from another planet.

You do not need to post or officially declare which prize your character chooses. The mods will trust everyone to choose one and play with it as they see fit.

And now, for some brief FAQs. Please read these before you begin plotting.

My character didn't help with the repair efforts at all. Do I still get some swag?
You do. The Nysgods of Gebo are far too busy to waste time trying to tell you all apart. And it doesn't matter to them all that much if you get some goodies. It's all excess anyway.

My character is new here! They don't even know what happened! Do they still get free stuff?
Absolutely.

Can I somehow change or reprogram any of the stuff?
The only item that players can reprogram is the Furby. Have fun pranking each other with that. All the other items are a combination of science and magic, throwing kinks at even the greatest of scientific or magical minds. None of the fabric items can be cut. The mirror can be broken. And if it cracks, it will not work any more. The broken shards are just regular, old pieces of glass. The game can also be broken if someone steps on it or throw it into a fire.

Is there going to be anyone on hand to explain how these things work?
Nope! When the swag is handed out, all items will appear fairly normal. Characters can use trial and error and conversation with each other to figure it all out.

Hey! My character went above and beyond the call of duty. Can't he/she get something special?
Glad you asked. Please read this response very carefully. If you feel that your character helped with repairs or medical treatments above and beyond the call of duty, leave a comment to the designated thread below, outlining what your character did. If the mods feel your character's contribution (handwaved or played out, we're going to trust you on this one), we will leave you a comment with a special prize that your character receives. You do not get to choose this prize, however. It is assigned to you. If we feel that your character's contributions weren't "above and beyond," we'll ask you to choose one of the prizes above. Again: If you opt into this, you DO NOT get to pick a prize. It will be assigned from a super-duper top secret mod list of special swag.

What if I end up with a prize I don't like?
Time to start creating new CR and trading with people. The list of prizes has been pre-generated and we will use an RNG system to assign them. It is entirely possible you will get something that is completely useless to your character. Please keep this in mind. A bald character could very much end up with a magical hairbrush.

Hey, can my character pretend they went above and beyond?
Not really. In game, there isn't actually any kind of lottery. The Nysgods are just acknowledging people who helped out big time. Because the mods can't keep track of every single thing that's handwaved or played out, this sign-up and lottery system is just to make life easier for us.

Wait! I still have questions!
Feel free to comment to the post. We are attempting to get away from using plurk to answer mod questions, as players find it convenient to see the answers to their own questions, when someone else asks them. That said, you are welcome to plot both here and on plurk, as you wish.
