Polar Vortex!

In the middle of the night on day 299, something has gone amiss. The temperature ship wide begins to slowly drop, filling the rooms with a biting low cold. It's as though winter has come to the Engime. Over the day, the walls and floors will slowly cover with ice and in the various lounges, it's begun to snow, coating tabletops and seats alike with a soft white blanket.

There's been a malfunction in the holodecks having to do with the recent fiddlings of Seth and a small group of people and now, it's a mere 15 °F. (That's -10 ºC) Thankfully, there's no wind chill to take into account. The Cargo Bay is the only place that seems to escape this cold but only the worst of it. It's more livable temperature comes out to only just above freezing.

The cold will last until late in day 301 when the ship slowly starts warming back up to it's amicable warmer temperatures.

So what shall you do? Cuddle with a buddy? Huddle under your blankets? Well now, that's up to you, isn't it.

Please note that this is a player plot and has nothing to do with the metaplot.

No, it's a technical malfunction.

Selene:

This will be a strange turn of pace for the vampire. She's unable to give heat, but will be suffering from the cold. What I'd really like is for her to reveal to Devon that she is a vampire, through circumstances that lead them to that conversation. Other than that, she might be running to the cargo hold to try and escape the freezing weather.

Reinette:

At six months with twins, Reinette isn't able to do very much but waddle around. She's on bed rest, but with this new influx of cold, she'll be extremely vulnerable. I'd like to bring her out more. If anyone has thoughts or desires, hit me up!

Tara:

I think Tara might continually try to use magic, but find it's not working. Part of me wants her to get really sick during this, hypothermia or something. But I'm not sure. I'd love for her to chat with Draco and Zach during this.

Margaery:

She's going to be so confused how Robb can handle this weather. She'll also be suffering a great deal during this (as she doesn't have any clothes suitable for the cold). So she'll be in the danger zone.

oh shit. Well, this is definitely cold enough for Noah to be in serious danger, when it's lasting this long and he can't get away from it, so he's going to need fires and cuddle partners. Anyone else who hates cold (I doubt it's actively dangerous to anyone else) is welcome to come cuddle with a human space heater! Because of fire being [BEGIN BORING TECHNICAL EXPLANATION] people oriented and people-needing and fuel-needing, having another person sharing their body heat with him is more useful than just a heater putting out the same amount of heat would be and will keep cold poisoning at bay for longer. The only that's more effective than a person is fire. [END BORING TECHNICAL EXPLANATION] Noah is probably going to try to minimize use of actual fire because it uses up oxygen and puts out air pollutants, and he doesn't really know how well the life support system is going to handle that kind of thing. He'll probably try and bring it up if he can manage to stop shivering violently for long enough.

Charles/Caius/ Natasha

This telepath doesn't care for cold, and being in a metal wheelchair only makes things colder. So, yeah. He's going to be done in the cargo hold, but my sadistic self wants to trap him somewhere.

Caius:

Also hates the cold, but does a better job of handling it. As his body temperature drops, the Quickening works against hypothermia causing him to burn a little warmer than others. So, he'd make a good person to sit beside, and/or cuddle with for warmth.

Natasha:

Has lived in Russia. Cold winters are crazy effen cold. Though with the lack of warmer clothing to keep her warm, she'll be doing exercises and running to keep her body temperature up, and hiding under blankets when she's not. She could do with a cuddle buddy, or two?

Devi will be tromping through the ship, stopping in the Library and one of the lounges to play in the snow. Her Ki can start fires, so if you need a walking flint and steel... Sooner or later, she'll find herself back in the Cargo Bay, but cuddling won't be her thing.

Matthew's blush of health maintains his body temperature to something that can pass in the human world, so despite the numbing cold, he'll be a little warmer then the rest of the freezing bodies. Bottle of scotch in hand, he'll be walking around offering shots to people to help ease their pains.

So have we mentioned how much he hates the cold? Because he hates the cold. Ironic, we know, but cold is associated with going into cryo which means quiet internal panic on his part.

So he's going to be a miserable pile of not-moving-around until someone invites his dumb ass out of the cold. Want to cuddle the murder machine? Go ahead! He's somewhat more sociable than he was before. He will at the very least speak. So that's new.

He's also prevented from doing any violence thanks to Cho's fun little collar thing, so he's perfectly safe to poke at, if you want to make him MORE miserable. He will grumpy cat face at you so hard.

Cho likes the cold. Kind of. Up to a certain point. This is waaaaaay past that point. She's going to be walking around in layers upon layers of spelled clothing so that it puts out a lot of heat. She will basically be steaming her way up and down the corridors. She will also be eating a ton to make up the calories her magic burns.

If anyone wants a super snuggly warm coat, or a blanket cape that's electric without the need for electricity, she's your girl.

When she doesn't have anywhere to be, she's probably going to make a blanket fort and also expend a ton of magical energy turning that into a little oven. Because trying to sleep when you're freezing is damn near impossible.

Martha will likely try to stay in her room, though once she finds out the cargo bay is a bit warmer, she will make her way there. Of course, she'll be wrapped in a blanket... and she may be making a side quest to the library for some reading materials. While she's not a doctor anymore, she will be concerned and watching people for signs of hypothermia. She's also open to cuddling for body heat. She did it plenty during the Paradox Year.

Elphaba has lived in cold before. She will likely hole up in her room unless someone actually remembers her existence and forces her out.

Blaine is like a walking heater normally, which is why he's always preferred cold weather. Maybe not this cold, but he's not doing too bad. He'll be walking around in layers, but not as many as you'd think he should have, and he'll be offering his body heat to people. A fair warning: he gets warm/hot pretty fast when snuggling so he may break it off to go breathe... or do that thing where you stick out an arm or a leg for ventilation. He'll be in the cargo bay some, but he'll also be exercising, running, and cooking warm foods like soup and chili. So come fill your bowl to stay warm |D

Charlotte: She is going to wonder what the actual fuck is happening that she actually feels cold. She will also be complaining bitterly and seek out warmth wherever she can find it. While wrapped in her blanket and possible as many layers as she can get on.

In general, Draco's not hugely fond of cold temperatures, so he'll be primarily keeping to the cargo hold, but I'm more than happy to have him wander around to grump as well!

Lydia will also be exceedingly unhappy with this (being a California girl, born and raised), and will spend the whole thing bundled up fiercely. She may wander the ship the first day as well in hopes of finding a warm spot or some scientific reason for the cold snap, so I'm open to her running into whomever!

In summary: totally open to any and all plotting for either of mine!

Not entirely sure what Siri will be doing for this, but there's likely to be some freezing Jedi shenanigans at some point during this plot.

LEN HATES THE GODDAMN COLD. She's a southern girl, born and bred, so she is NOT going to like this one damn bit. So she's bundling up, making the strongest fucking mint julep she can manage, and holing up somewhere to grump about everything. But there's a possibility she might hole up in the clinic in case people need medical attention.
