She doesn't want to explain why smoke or bad smells are something to be weary of. It requires more of an explanation than she feels like giving.
"Yes," Marion said with a glance in his direction. "We come from very different places. Where I'm from being a Christian is almost seen as normal."
Which is funny because she knows magic is real. She is a werewolf after all. The Bible might have a few negative things to say about how her kind was created. She is just going to ignore it because her faith isn't so important to her anymore. "My parents just taught me that as wise as priests think they are? Using some common sense is always a good idea."

"So Christians are numerous where you are from? I had not heard of them before we sailed West the first time." It had been quite the adventure going West. England had proved to be a very lucrative raiding destination. So much so that Ragnar seemed to largely ignore going to the East for the yearly raids, and now focused on England. At least when there wasn't civil war going on at home.
"But what about the will of your god? Does that not guide your life in some way?" Rollo was curious as opposed to picking a theological debate on the matter. He had a deep faith in his gods, and he believed they had a fate planned out for him already. Which seemed to be to constantly live in his brother's shadow and go unnoticed.
Though he was still obviously an active participant in their discussion, he turned his gaze back to the water, watching the light show. It did make him nostalgic for his home and to see the lights of the Bifrost Bridge dance across the sky.

She doesn't care about that. She doesn't care about a lot of things when it comes to the opinion of others. She had a rough few years that changed how she acts.
"Yes and no. We believe God created man. But He also granted man free will. That we have to choose how to act. Will we act good and with honor? Or will we be oath breaking assholes? It's choice. Sure He can inspire us like a father sets a good example for his children but we're not forced to obey Him."
And now she misses her father. He would probably laugh at this conversation. And she she ever tell him about the werewolf? Well. She imagines he would hunt down the werewolf who bit her and put a bullet in his head.
Her father did not like sadists. He did not suffer evil.

He listened to what she had to say. It was strange to him to hear of a god that didn't seek to guide the steps of his followers. Of course, Rollo could make his own choices, but how much of that was laid down by fate and how much of it was free will? "It is a strange notion for me. We each have a destiny, and we do what we can to be in the gods' favor. Lose their favor, and you could lose everything." He grew solemn, thinking of when he'd chosen to fight against his brother. Though when it came to the deciding moment in battle when he came face-to-face with his brother, he could not truly fight him.
Rollo was still questioning why the gods chose to spare his life. He betrayed his brother, his kinsmen, he should by all rights be dead by their laws. Yet he'd been spared. Siggy had told him it was because the gods had given him a chance to redeem himself, to prove himself.
"What does your god say of redemption?" This was not the conversation he'd anticipated having, but Rollo was currently lost, and he needed something to help ground him once again.

Her father putting up his jacket. Taking off his heavy work boot. Then moving to run his fingers through her mother's hair while peering over er shoulder to find out what was being cooked. Only to have his hand playfully slapped away as he went to steal a bite to eat.
That happened nearly every night. She feels bad that her father died. It killed the way her mother laughed.
"Mmm. Redemption is something that is given freely. We're all allowed to seek it. What is important is believing you are worthy and seeking to change or fix what damage you caused. A man who keeps saying he is sorry for lying but, turns around and lies again isn't actually sorry after all."

Listening to the description of redemption, Rollo nodded slightly, thinking over her words carefully. "Recently, I should have been sentenced to die for betraying my brother. The gods spared me from such a fate, and I did not see why they would. I still do not understand, though I was told before my arrival here that the gods gave me a second chance to earn trust back. Though how does one earn back trust after betraying my own brother and everyone I have known my entire life?"
He was deeply conflicted on what had happened. He disliked how flippant his brother seemed to be in regards to letting others have their glory as well. And well, Rollo had his own desires, and he hated being in his brother's shadow.

She rubs her chin and jaw in thought. She isn't sure what she would do. She never had siblings. Her parents wouldn't have minded another child but her mother's health would have suffered and her father would never stand to hurt the people he cared for.
"If you are truly sorry, you must say so. I've seen many strange things but most men cannot read minds. Even if they could, expressing yourself is the most important thing you can do. There is no shame in speaking plainly. Usually what causes betrayal is.... self-motivation. You have to learn to set aside your pride. Everyone wants glory. Even mothers do. Women want to see their sons and daughters thrive." She pushes back some hair rolling her thoughts about in her head. His situation is complicated. She can practically hear the priest at her Church. She really does miss sitting in on Mass. Too bad she doesn't see herself being able to go back there. Not while sitting on a very distant beach.
"Put your people's needs first. Do everything you can to champion their causes. Their needs. Even if they do not trust your motivations, your actions will show what you mean. Some men won't trust you. Others will see that you've changed. It won't be easy but nothing worth doing is easy, I find."
