Beth Greene || The Walking Dead (Season 4 So here there be spoilers...)
She misses the days when things were more simple. Before the dead started walking, and just about everyone she's ever known was lost. And now... She lost one of the most important things left, the one thing--
Beth sniffles and wipes her eyes with a little shuddering sigh.
Sitting on a rocky outcropping and just stares off into the distance. The mountains are beautiful, she thinks her Daddy would have liked to see them, and without warning she sobs, and finds herself really crying again.
It was awful. Trapped behind that fence like that... not able to help-- or do anything. Stuck up there in the 'safety' of their false fortress while she watched. How do you come back from that?
He didn't deserve that...
He did everything he could to help everyone around him. He was a good man. A GOOD man... And what did it get him in this world? It wasn't fair. Rick was wrong, they couldn't have made it work. And see, the thing is... he and her Daddy would have tried and by the time they both knew what was happening....
It would have been too late.
Beth sighs... petting the tiny ball of fluff in her lap when it mewls at her. It's funny how this world works, what it does to you. How it changes people.
"I miss my Daddy, Daryl." And added a beat later. "And Maggie."
The fluffy and somehow scruffy rough looking scrappy little kitten looks up at her with a rather dubious-- or more likely bored expression. He reminds her of the rough cut crossbow wielding 'tough guy', who was probably better with Judith than she was. So the name fits.
Even if there's a nagging little tickle in the back of her head that says there is something a little weird about all of this, she figures as long as there aren't Walkers she's safe, and if she's not safe-- than God has graced her with at least a gorgeous view to spend eternity watching. "I wish he could be here to see this."

So she approached, settling down just a few feet away from her. Close enough that the girl could probably hear her, but far enough away that it wasn't creepy.
"They're beautiful, aren't they?"

threatnewcomer she notes the pack, her eyes drawn to it she can't help wonder... She pulls her gaze away turning back to look out at the view and nods, "They're amazing."no subject
"It's probably one of the better things about this place," she says, tugging the pack open. It's all camping food -- dried meats, nuts and berries mixed together, a bottle of water. "The rainbow rain in the rainforest is kind of nice." And then she makes a face.
"Sorry, that sounded way better in my head."
Shoot.
Dried meat-- keeps longer and doesn't attract so much attention. Berries-- Daddy and later Daryl (not the cat one) taught her which ones she could eat and which ones she couldn't.
The bottle of water though, that's a small wonder to the blonde, they'd run out of those-- she can't even remember how long ago.
She nods, taking in the little bit of information about her new surroundings. Then turns with a faint smile at the second comment. "Rainbow rain.." It's spoken a little wistfully, "that sounds interesting." but she doesn't ask more, no for now she sets that aside, questions for a little later.
"Are there Walkers here? I haven't seen any yet, but sometimes you can go days and not see one. Other times they just keep coming and you think they're never going to stop."
SUDDENLY AN OLD MAN
"I've never heard of those, so I don't think so. Unless they're in a different part of the Wyld that I haven't been to yet."
GET OUT DADDY YOU DON'T BELONG HERE!

"I've never heard of them, so that means they're not here. What are they?"

"Some kind of apocalypse?" She breaks off a piece of the dried meat and chews on it thoughtfully.

"You know, talkin' to yourself is one a those signs you're losin' it."

Releasing him she gathers the kitten back up and settles close enough their shoulders bump. "I wasn't talking to myself anyway, I was talking to the kitten."
She totally named him after you. That's not weird right?
no subject
His hand falls away when hers do and he's happy enough to settle close to her, his hands behind him, propping him up.
"Yeah? Where'd you get it? Ain't hardly big enough to put in a stew."
No, he won't really cook the kitten, even if she did name it after him.
no subject
She leans against him and looks down at the kitten, then back over to him with a little frown. "I don't know. He was just here." She shoves him with her shoulder and smiles a little because of the stew comment. "We should fatten him up a little first."
No, she doesn't believe he would cook it.
no subject
Daryl smirks and bumps her shoulder back. "Might be able to make a meal out of him if we let grow up a little."
no subject
"I named him after you." She chuckles to herself and looks down at her lap and the kitten. "I thought I was going to be alone without you and... I wanted-- I thought if he was going to keep me company...."
She trails off feeling nine kinds of silly and childish.
no subject
However, her revelation about naming the cat after him gets a confused look, a bit of 'are you crazy'. After she explains, the look softens.
"He's lots cuter and cuddlier than I am. Might want to stick with the cat."
