GOOD MORNING DAGAZ

Q. Where can my character go?
A. As of now, characters are allowed to explore the city of Dagaz. Here's a map of the city central. Outside of the central area is mostly residential neighborhoods, but if your character decides to go exploring them for any reason, feel free to contact the mods to talk about what neighborhoods in Dagaz are like.
Q. How can they get around?
A. By foot, by bicycle if they purchase one, or by the train. The train costs one credit per ride.
Q. What's this about a curfew?
A. Sorry, there is a curfew. If you miss it, a search party will be sent out to make sure nothing terrible happened to you. If you continually miss it, there will be some consequences. When the city lights dim, city hours are over and you've got about an hour to get back to the Waiting Room.
Q. Will they have any money?
A. Your characters will be given 100 credits as a monthly stipend. For the sake of ease, we will say a credit carries roughly the same weight as a dollar or pound (etc.) Basically, this is enough to travel and to go to a tavern once or twice, but your characters aren't exactly living large.
Q. What kind of job can my character have?
A. Glad you asked! Some jobs available include work as a city gardener, working in retail shops, work as a research assistant for the scientifically minded, a lower level position in the museum or library, work as a train conductor, a few people could find work at Blake's tavern, and there are a very few positions open for assistants to Earth scholars. If you have another job you'd like your character to have, ask here if it's a possibility. Otherwise, you can also use this spot to claim a job and we will tell you what you need to know.
Q. Okay, what if my character wants a better job? Some people don't plan on going back home, after all.
A. Hey, your character is welcome to attend the free university! They can take classes to work with the advanced Nysgod technology, or they can study Nysgod magic. This will take awhile, but your character can eventually begin to understand these fields well enough to find a better job. For more information about the fields of study available and what university in Dagaz is like, ask any questions here.
Q. Dagaz is boring. What can my character do for fun?
A. Well, party animal, now that your character has the city open to them, there's a lot of things you'd find anywhere else! A shopping district, museums and libraries, symphonies and theatres. Remember that this is an advanced society, so films will likely be not like anything most characters from Earth are used to. They will find themselves in the middle of a full-surround experience of a hologram variety.
Q. I have more questions!
A. We probably have answers! Ask here. We don't bite.

So, university is free. The travelers are "in the system" now so it's as simple as walking into the building and registering for classes.
There is the basic lecture system but if he approaches a professor, he can also take on some form of apprenticeship that would probably be below his stature but would also get him on the fast track toward understanding Nysgod magic more quickly.
He's not going to be traveling by shadow anytime soon and it will probably be a lot more theoretical application to begin with, but if you want to chat about the sort of things he'd be learning, we can. Otherwise, we can discuss it the next time an event/plot point arises where this education would be applicable.

I'll ask you what he knows if and when it becomes relevant.

There aren't a *ton* of mortals that come through, but since it's one of the only establishments in the capital city that serves food, it stays relatively busy.
Eliot would also probably be exposed to a *ton* of alcohol he is not familiar with if he worked as a barkeep, as it is brought in from all sorts of worlds and dimensions, so he might find that interesting.

Also, sooner or later he's totally going to go looking for that multidimensional pawn shop.

What exactly is an Earth scholar? Nysgods who started out from Earth or ones who study Earth or what?
And, last question, which of these available jobs has the best compensation?
no subject
1. An Earth Scholar is a Nysgod who studies/writes about Earth culture. Part historian and part anthropologist. An assistant would be asked a lot of questions but would also review documents and texts and discuss their purpose and legitimacy with him/her and that sort of thing.
2. An assistant or a conductor would probably make the most money of these beginning positions.
3. About the university classes: We've actually decided that along with the monthly AC, we'll be posting information on what the students at university should now be able to do. For example, the first practical application they'll be learning is how to sense when a Nysgod is reading their thoughts, but they'll eventually move on to keeping surface thoughts hidden, blocking a Nysgod's probing into their head, sensing an illusion, seeing an illusion for what it is, etc. Aside from practical applications, you can assume your character is learning about Nysgod magic in an educational sense in the lecture halls.

Natasha's just going to be an unsociable thing though.

Tech students are learning about the network at the moment, and the first thing they will learn is how to learn who is accessing a channel on the network.

Glinda would also be interested in a magical apprenticeship being that she's already an accomplished witch.

The lower levels at the museum or library just involve a lot of filing, he could get work basically anywhere as cleaning staff (on the train, for any sort of retail shop, etc). He could also work at some sort of shop. Help a perfumist mix his oils, work on a balance sheet just about anywhere, etc.

Kenzi: ... Might attempt to run a few cons. :|
Carol: I have no idea what to do with her.
no subject
Kenzi: She is free to do so!
Carol: No one is required to attend classes or to work, so she can entirely just use her 100 credits a month and otherwise continue staying at the Waiting Room as she is. If you'd like to bounce ideas off of us for what she'd want to do, we can talk about what options she has, though.

I assume he'd be doing the basic stall and grooming duties?

He could work at Blake's unless there is any other suggestions...

There are also currently many jobs in construction available after the whole meteor fiasco, and the need is high enough that this job will have a higher pay rate than most jobs at the moment.
