Hello! I'm Sheena and I'm new here, but it turns out I know some of you from Olden Days of Yore and I was kind of ridiculously excited to discover that. Back in the days of Rowan I went by Tam and played a chatterbox dragon and a singing mad scientist, if that jogs your memory. Anywho, I'm a grad student. I like tea and folk music and sloths. I sometimes play characters from things that don't really even have fandoms. I'm bringing in Sparrow, from a novel called
Bone Dance by Emma Bull. Emma Bull is awesome and you should read it and you should also read
War for the Oaks and
Territory. My plurk is
squeakygeeky.
Sparrow's canon is kind of hard to explain because the setting is post-apocalyptic earth and involves psychic super-soldiers but also lots of Voodoo somehow? Also, monopolies are bad, power to the people. Like, literally. The people need more electricity.
Sparrow is also hard to explain. The spirits put a soul into an empty shell body that had been created for the psychic super-soldiers, which is how Sparrow happened. As a result, Sparrow is mostly human but among other things lacks a gender (or biological sex). Because reasons, men perceive Sparrow as male and women perceive Sparrow as female and they don't usually notice anything is up until they compare notes. I use ze/hir pronouns for Sparrow, but just keep in mind that's not what Sparrow ICly does at this point.
The Nysgods were like, "Uhh...." and Sparrow was like, "Eeep," and now Sparrow gets a private room in the Administrative Tower. I am totally on board with characters noticing that and finding it odd, and also on characters talking behind Sparrow's back and having wacky misunderstandings. Sparrow loves movies and electronics and would like to try coffee someday. Hir main defensive weapon is not being noticed. Hir main offensive weapons are sarcasm and, in one instance, a tea kettle.
I'm hoping to be able to bring Sparrow in tomorrow night.
ETA: Uh, I accidentally originally only put my old nick and not my current one and now my entry is tagged wrong, can someone fix that?
