She always felt very proud of herself when she knew she'd correctly used a big word, like 'hospitality.'
In her very particular Garmay sort of way, she tilted her head to one side. The lily pad slid off of her head and into the water with a plop and a splash, making her giggle a little with embarrassment.

"I ain't seen you 'round here before. What's your name?"

"Merlin." He had many names, but that was the one he was fondest of.
"This is a place I haven't been before." The concept of another universe or another world was almost incidental to him. He had come to accept his role in destiny and magic, following where it lead him.
"Is it warm enough? The water?"

Well, his clothing was right peasant-like. But that was just by the standards of her world. Best not to assume.

The appearance of age could be deceiving. As could clothing, but in this case, she was not wrong. No drop of noble blood ran through his veins.
"What can I call you?" His head tilted almost to the same angle as hers, an instinctive mimicry, done unintentionally.

She paused. "Or 'rein' like what you put on a horse," she added as an afterthought.

"I see no reason why it can't mean all of them. That gives your name a lot of meaning then. Three for one word."
And words were powerful things, as he well knew.
Merlin let one hand fall down to the surface of the water, a small tap that sent ripples of waves out.

She moved a little closer to the bank, some of the green splashing off of her. "Does your name mean anythin'?" she asked. "I sure do love names with good stories behind 'em."

Still, he does avert his eyes out of politeness and smiles at the shadows in the water.
"Where I come from, a merlin is a kind of bird, a falcon. It also means fortress of the sea." And because of him, it looked like his name would come to mean 'advisor'.
