Goodbye Wyld, Hello Everywhere
Jul. 2nd, 2014 07:04 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
On the morning of Day 276, just around the time the sky begins to lighten, the gangplank to the Egime closes. Aside from a soft, mechanical whirr, those on board don't really notice any change.
Those still in the Wyld, however, will have a different experience.
As the gangplank closes, the water around the Egime begins to ripple. With surprising grace, for such a bluntly designed vessel, the Egime rises into the air. For a moment, it hovers, churning the waters beneath. And then, with an unexpected jolt of speed, it rips up into the air. And then, it's as if it rips through the air. The sky almost seems to resemble tissue paper as the Egime breaks through the filament. One watching can just barely view a swirling vortex of light and color (colors beyond the mortal spectrum) churning on the other side.
And then, every person still in the Wyld will feel the shadows of the Grasp close in around them, stumbling blindly and dizzily into the Egime's cargo hold.
The ship, now in transit, has become the primary new setting for this portion of the metaplot.
Please read this page, all the way to the bottom, for an explanation of the ship. And then, make sure to scan the following FAQs for more information.
I'm a little confused. Can you give me the short version of what just happened?
Long story short, some of the candidates built a new engine for the ship, using the Grasp. The Grasp, which brought PCs into the game in the first place, has a connection to each character, so it pulled all the candidates on board and it will tether them to the ship for this phase of the plot. As for who or what is piloting the ship, that's a mystery. All the PCs know, at this point, is that someone is flying it and that there are certain parts of the ship (Decks 7-9 and the cockpit) that they cannot access.
But my character wanted to stay in the Wyld!
Every character is tethered to the Grasp. So where the Grasp goes, the candidates go. Unfortunately, we don't have the capacity to run more than one setting at a time.
My character had a lot of stuff in the Wyld. Do they get to keep it?
All of your characters' possessions are in their hands. If they decided to move their things on board, after they were warned that the ship would be departing (Day 275), then it's on board with them. If they stubbornly refused to pack and board, all of their things, except for what they were carrying or wearing at the time the Egime left the Wyld, will be left behind.
What about things from the Wyld itself?
The various plants, fruits, nuts, and fish native to the Wyld will turn to dust within three hours of leaving the Wyld. There's nothing extraordinary about the dust. It's just dust. Anything that was conjured in the Wyld (for example, if Glinda conjured up a sparkly dress) will remain unchanged.
So what's on the ship?
I will refer you once more to this page for a summary of what the Egime is like. Feel free to ask specific questions on that page and also check out this page which has some specific questions about the ship from players. For everyone's reference, the Egime is significantly smaller than the Wyld, the dormitories in Gebo, or Othala Temple. Candidates should feel like they're in closer quarters than usual. Feel free to play with that theme. Fight over the bathroom! Walk into each other's bedrooms! Bump into people more often! Ships are generally designed to be small and conserve as much space as possible. The furniture itself might be a little too small for your character's liking.
Will there be an event log for the departure?
There are no plans for one. Please feel free to have your characters reacting to what's happened in any way you wish.
How will new characters be arriving in the game?
New characters will arrive in the cargo hold. Unless PCs want to take responsibility for it, Insa will continue to give the "welcome speech."
Am I reading this correctly? We can run player plots in our canon universes?
That is correct, but make sure to read all of the instructions and remember that you must run your idea by a mod before posting anything to the OOC comm. Each canon world will come with its own rules and restrictions, so everything will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and what may work for one world may not work for another. Once more, please read this page thoroughly. You can find an (intentionally silly) example of a player plot here.
What the hell is up with Casey?
A very good question. Those familiar with her scent (she kinda smells like burnt hair) or lifeforce may detect traces of her on board the ship, from time to time. More to come.
I still have a million, billion, gazillion, google times infinity questions and you didn't answer them here or on this page!
Feel free to ask them on this post or on the setting post. Make sure, before you ask a question, to check and see if someone else has already asked the same question. And please do not ask questions on plurk, unless those questions are along the lines of "Can I give you a cookie?" or "Who put the bop in the bop-she-bop?" (For the record, the answers are "Yes" and "Anne Boleyn," respectively.)
