"There aren't any rats here in the first place," Alec says looking at the wound. "It'll heal better if I bind it up."

He shoves his hand into a pocket and pulls out a roll of bandages. Before sneezing again. The kitten gets a hard shove as it tries to bat at the bandages.

"No barony that I know of. Looks more like a very cheerful meadow. I expect Bambi and his mother any minute."

"They must feel the need to hide." It's the only explanation. Rats are everywhere, London Above, London Below, even the Great and Terrible Isle of Westminster. Also, why would there be cats if they had nothing to hunt?

"But who do you pay fealty to?" The Bambi reference escapes her. She knows so little of the world above. Pulling her sleeve apart, it was ready to fall apart anyway, Door tries to brush some grit away. Keeping her wound clean came second to running away from the two assassins.

The bandages worry her. "I have nothing to trade for the bandages. I must owe you a favour."

[personal profile] element_wizard 2014-03-08 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well, first off, cats do hunt other things besides rats like small birds and apparently Alec, as the kitten seems to be determined to tackle him. It's failing miserably, but still trying. Alec sneezes. Damn allergies.

"Who do I pay fealty to... that's an interesting question with a lot of interesting answers. But for simplicity's sake, we shall go with the King and Queen of Twilight in the mist realms of the Fae." He figures that would make more sense than some answers he could give. Looking the wound over he summons a bit of water to wash it out.

"I don't charge or trade for helping people in need of it. I cause enough misery in people's lives. It gives me a small bit of pleasure to actually be allowed to help someone."

Hearing the voice, Rollo looked up to the woman. It wasn't really the light that startled him, not completely anyway. It was what the sand was doing that got him the most. It made it seem as though there was some monster beneath the sand that was moving around. It did rather unnerve the warrior.

"It seems as though some creature lurks beneath the sand," he responded to the teasing. Despite being a hardened warrior, Rollo didn't take everything as a threat, and he wasn't aiming to be intimidating currently. Not that one could be intimidating while being unnerved at this new experience. "Have the gods bestowed the sand with life?"

It was a good thing when he'd been brought here he hadn't been in his armor. He was wearing a simple light colored tunic with dark pants and boots. His long hair was partially pulled back to keep it out of his face. The only noticeable thing about him were the dual jagged scars on his cheeks. Permanent reminders of Earl Haraldson's torture of him to try and get him to turn against his brother.

"Come off him, he doesn't want to be bothered," Door scolds, but she doesn't speak cat like she does rat or pigeon. Instead, she'll snatch it up with her good arm.

"The Queen in Queen's Park or Queensbury?" At least he didn't say the Shepherds.

"That's a sufficient enough trade, if it makes you happy." Definitely not London Below, or even above, for that matter.
didnotwant: (Stare ahead)

[personal profile] didnotwant 2014-03-08 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
She's on the small side. Not exactly fine boned but obviously not from overly tall stock. She does not look imposing.

"I don't think so. The sand is too clean. Creatures always leave some sign they've been here," Marion points out dragging the toe of her boot through the sand.

"I don't know if the gods did it. But there are other races besides just men out there."

She is wearing tan khaki pants and a light weight grey t-shirt that she had bought in Gebo. She had been working on the green house today so even if she is done working for the day the tool belt hangs low on her hips, tilted at a slight angle from the weight of a hammer on one side.

She looks whole and healthy. Calm too. She is not worried to be talking by herself. "Whatever is doing this is buried pretty deeply under the sand. Deeper than I'd feel like digging to discover. I don't think it matters right now."

[personal profile] element_wizard 2014-03-08 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
The kitten looks miffed but doesn't do anything but hang there. Fortunately it's just an ordinary kitten and not the teleporting kind. Alec hates those.

"None of the above. I'm not from Earth." He starts to carefully wind the bandage around her arm. "I'm a world hopper."

Rollo wasn't typically one who judged people based on their size, height or otherwise. There were plenty of Viking women who were more slight than men but fought with equal ferocity. He'd seen Lagertha fight enough times to know that first-hand.

"That is true," though Rollo typically would attribute things such as the sand to something the gods did as opposed to the giants. It still didn't mean he trusted it to not be hazardous in some way.

Though she had a point. It did seem to buried deep in the sand, and Rollo wasn't going to spend time digging for it. Especially when it was obviously on the move. The chances of catching it in the current circumstance were quite slim.

"Perhaps not, though I have not seen sand move in such a way that was not caused by some creature or man causing it to do so."
didnotwant: (Side view)

[personal profile] didnotwant 2014-03-08 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
She gives up on standing and just sits. It seems easier.

"I see no danger right now. No need to worry. Now if it starts to smell of rotting eggs or smoke? That's when getting off the sand is the wisest course of action," Marion said while mulling over different ideas in her head.

She considers something. "Have you seen earthquakes before? I don't know if you would think it's the gods or something else.... Er. I was raised Catholic, for the record. I'm just aware that just because I was raised to believe something... well. It might not be right. What would I know? I'm just mortal."
inmybrothersshadow: (005 - Pensive)

[personal profile] inmybrothersshadow 2014-03-08 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
He gave a nod. "I shall remember that." Though he was wondering what rotting eggs or smoke had to do with it, but he wouldn't question it. While he understood smoke rarely was a good thing, rotting eggs baffled him a bit.

"I have experienced one before," Rollo said. Once she sat down, Rollo decided to sit back down again. When there was no apparent imminent danger, it didn't make sense for him to remain standing on alert. Though when she said she was Catholic, he looked at her a bit curiously. "Catholic, as in a Christian?" He'd met several Christians before, even been baptized as one despite the fact he was still a steadfast believer in the Norse gods. No one else had volunteered to be baptized to convince King Aelle they had good will in the deal Ragnar had forged with the English.
didnotwant: (Yeah huh)

[personal profile] didnotwant 2014-03-08 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmm. That could make sand move more violently than any beast."

She doesn't want to explain why smoke or bad smells are something to be weary of. It requires more of an explanation than she feels like giving.

"Yes," Marion said with a glance in his direction. "We come from very different places. Where I'm from being a Christian is almost seen as normal."

Which is funny because she knows magic is real. She is a werewolf after all. The Bible might have a few negative things to say about how her kind was created. She is just going to ignore it because her faith isn't so important to her anymore. "My parents just taught me that as wise as priests think they are? Using some common sense is always a good idea."
inmybrothersshadow: (009 - Glance up/listening)

[personal profile] inmybrothersshadow 2014-03-08 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
It did make sense, so he simply left that subject. So long as nothing decided to pop out of the sand, he was willing to do his best to ignore it.

"So Christians are numerous where you are from? I had not heard of them before we sailed West the first time." It had been quite the adventure going West. England had proved to be a very lucrative raiding destination. So much so that Ragnar seemed to largely ignore going to the East for the yearly raids, and now focused on England. At least when there wasn't civil war going on at home.

"But what about the will of your god? Does that not guide your life in some way?" Rollo was curious as opposed to picking a theological debate on the matter. He had a deep faith in his gods, and he believed they had a fate planned out for him already. Which seemed to be to constantly live in his brother's shadow and go unnoticed.

Though he was still obviously an active participant in their discussion, he turned his gaze back to the water, watching the light show. It did make him nostalgic for his home and to see the lights of the Bifrost Bridge dance across the sky.

[personal profile] didnotwant 2014-03-08 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Yup," she said with a nod. "It's a very different place. Hotter than here. I'm considered a bit of an.... oddity. Red hair. Doesn't fit."

She doesn't care about that. She doesn't care about a lot of things when it comes to the opinion of others. She had a rough few years that changed how she acts.

"Yes and no. We believe God created man. But He also granted man free will. That we have to choose how to act. Will we act good and with honor? Or will we be oath breaking assholes? It's choice. Sure He can inspire us like a father sets a good example for his children but we're not forced to obey Him."

And now she misses her father. He would probably laugh at this conversation. And she she ever tell him about the werewolf? Well. She imagines he would hunt down the werewolf who bit her and put a bullet in his head.

Her father did not like sadists. He did not suffer evil.

"Random? RANDOM?"

"I've been working my ass off for two years in the scum hole of Korea just to land here....to what? To live with the prospect I might never see my dad again?"

Hawk breathes, trying to calm down... "Look, I'm not angry at you, and I'm sorry for yelling... but maybe a space nurse might be more fit to handle this than someone who has only seen a television set twice in his life."

Door has far too firm a grip on the kitten, that it has to accept its fate.

"Neither above or below? Who brought you here?" The rules of her own world say an opener has to allow someone such free movement.

Maybe the same person brought her here.

"That's a complicated question, and one best answered in the Meadow, away from the sun." He's entirely too pale to be in sun this bright. "Short answer is we're in a place called the Wyld. But that likely raises more questions than it answers." She steps backwards towards the meadow. "Bring along the kitten. I don't fancy leaving it on it's own out in the sand."

[personal profile] hypospraying 2014-03-08 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's less that she's a space nurse and more that this isn't her first kidnapping, but she doesn't point that out.

"I understand. It's just that I've had time to adjust and try to make a life for myself until we all find a way back. Just because we haven't figured it out yet doesn't mean we never will."

Johnny's survival skills had gotten slightly better in the last few years, but he was still a city boy through and through. None of those skills involved survival in a desert, so he underestimated how much he was going to need in the way of supplies, and was now desperately low.

The half-demon's patience are already few even on a good day, and being overheated, lost, and frustrated were only making it worse. To add insult to injury, he managed to trip over an old tin toy truck and right into a cactus. Not usually so klutzy, he vented his frustration with a string of curses and punting that truck as hard as he could. It goes sailing off into the distance rather far, and then down, down...

Well that was odd. Johnny manages to jog ahead for a few yards to get a good glimpse of that canyon that seemed to sneak up on him. He shielded his eyes to get a better look, but the sand below was blinding. This is the first landmark he had seen in awhile though, so maybe, just maybe, someone else was here too. He called out just in case, before he plopped onto the ground in order to work on getting some of those needles out of his shin.

"Hey! HEY! Is anyone here? Anyone?!"

Ben smirked, glad that the plant knew better. He took a step out of range anyway, tucking the knife back into his belt before looking over at the girl.

"You alright?" He watched her carefully, holding his hands up to show he wasn't going to hurt her.

Honestly, the castle wasn't half-bad. Quaint, perhaps. Certainly nothing to compare with the estate she'd left behind in the Enchanted Forest.

But then this wasn't the Enchanted Forest was it? No, this land had a different feel. It was...wrong, somehow. The magic here shifted and slipped together, mixing in ways it shouldn't and leaving her feeling uneasy. Well. It made no difference to her so long as she could find her way out of the meadow and back to Storybrooke, of course, but she was without means of travel. No magical hat to steal, no pixie dust, not so much as a magic bean.

Not yet, at least. Perhaps the residents of this humble castle might have some means of returning her home. They might even have the sense to turn it over to her without a fuss.

Head held high, as though she weren't intent on essentially begging for a ride home again, Regina made her way towards the looming stone structure.

"The Wyld...?" He's never heard of such land. As a child, he spent countless hours learning the maps, family crests and mottos, what he would see in each region. This wasn't ringing a bell in his mind.

And he's surprised she's telling him what to do, not that it was a bad thing, just... unexpected. He blinks, looking around and takes the few steps to catch up to the kitten, catching it.

"Winterfell? King's Landing? Riverrun? Dorne? Do any of these sound familiar?"
element_wizard: (Maybe)

"More like from in between here and there and all the spaces between moments and ideas," he says. "And as for who brought me here? Now that's also a tricky question with far too many possible answers. Let me think of one that's not quite a lie."

One could easily say that Alec is an opener all by himself.

"There are beings that rule this place that fish all of reality looking for different kinds of people to marry their... I think prince, but I'm not one hundred percent sure. I'd have to double check. It might be king. In any case, they have snatched you up as a possible mate. And, I suppose me as well, since I am here. Though one could say I brought myself because there are little to know places closed to me and I came because I wanted to see what it was like. It's hard to say, really."
